What Tube Rod

So I have a question for you all in BR, I have 180$ to spend and I'm trying to get a tube rod that is somewhat light and as sensitive as possible. I was looking at either getting either a Dobyns Sierra 704sf, and that would basically use all of my money, or should I buy a St Croix BassX or Mojo bass 7' mh and buy some braid with that? Any other suggestions you guys have would be appreciated, but would like some feedback on what of the two I should go with

Check dobyns website for refurbished rods. I feel like for 180 bucks there are a lot better options.

4 power dobyns spinning rods are pretty stout. Especially if you're wanting a tube rod. I'd be looking at the 702/703

iabass8, okay, all of my buddies who are older than me use 704sf bc they say that Dobyns rods are a little lighter than they are rated

Might I add that I mean Stupid Tubes not open hook tubes(like regular tubes)

If you have $180 to spend on the rod. Wait out a TW sale and pick up a St Croix Avid or Avid X. I'd say ML or M at most. St Croix runs on the heavy side of power. FYI Dobyns runs on the lighter side of power.

Or should I buy a GLoomis E6X 7'1 mh for 100$

Buy the rod power based on the weight and hook size you are primarily going to use. I use a lot of stupid tube jig heads from ACT lures in the 1/8 and 3/16 light/med wire hook and use a DX742CHP. 

 

Spinning rod powers in Dobyns rods are hard to nail down. They are pretty model specific when it comes to knowing exactly how it will work.

 

Any 3 power dobyns spinning rod will be more than adequate for almost all tube fishing unless you're primarily throwing 1/2oz tube heads in grass. Then I could see a 4 power.

Thank you, that was helpful, but should I buy a Loomis E6X off a buddy that is 7'1 mh and only been used a couple times or buy a fury 703 for tubes

E6x is a better rod imo

I'm a big dobyns fan but would definitely be looking at the Tatula Elite spinning rods. The non AGS model is 179. I'd be looking at that 7'3 MXF for general tube fishing. If you're fishing the 3/8+ a lot then the 7'1 MH would be ideal. I'd buy that rod over any Sierra, Fury, E6X, or Champ spinning rod.

iabass8 how much different is the action of a Savvy rod than say the Fury or Champion XP? I know the Sierra is a slower blank.

Dobyns has a Savvy series SS703SF (not the micro series) refurb trade in no repairs for $100.

They also have a brand new "rep sample" Savvy Series Micro SSM703SF rod for $100.

Both sounded like pretty good deals.

The refurb rods can be found on the Dobyns rods by opening the menu item "store" in the upper menu across the top of the page.

The action is slower. Savvy's are not rod's I'd be using where sensitivity is something I want.

Kistler Mag 2 in Med or ML. I personally use the ML KLX but that is out of your range. You can get the Magnesium 2 for $180 straight from Kistler's site with their 20% off sale.

No question the E6X.

 

I fish a Sierra 703 for tubes and I really like it. I much prefer slower action rods so this blank is perfect for me. If someone wanted a faster blank the Tatula Elite series is an insane rod at its price point. In my hands the Tatula is more sensitive than the Champion line from Dobyns.

I tube fished river smallies here in Minnesota, I would use nothing lighter than a medium. There are guys when fishing rivers for smallies and tubes they go medium heavy cause the hook set and they fight.

You can find a new Tatula rod for around 100 on eBay. I have both and the Tatula is much better than the E6x I have.

100% agree with this. I typically use a MH with tubes on St Clair to get hooks and control the fish, which is impossible to do with light (6 and 8lb) line and a ML spinning rod.
