Need ideas for a new combo (finesse)

Hey guys. For bass fishing right now I have:

 

Baitcast Combo 1: (Bass Pro Carbonlite Rod - 7", medium power, fast action) paired with (Abu Garcia Revo S believe it is 6.4:1).

 

Baitcast Combo 2: (Team Diawa Pro Rod (TD701MFHB) - 7", medium heavy power, action is unknown) paired with Bass Pro Qualifier Tournament edition reel looks like it is 6.4:1).

 

I also have a Pflueger Supreme 8040 MG Spinning Reel currently without a rod and below are the specs for this reel.

250 yards / 10 Lb.

6.2:1

9.6 oz

Left & Right

Medium Freshwater

 

 

Currently looking for a rod and reel combo for lighter lure weight bass fishing (finesse) for light stick baits, grubs, just smaller stuff in general that my bait-casters cannot handle properly - I like quality gear that will last but also on a budget ($100 - $175 in total for combo) - Someone somewhere said BP is having a sale soon and am willing to wait a couple weeks to get something if you know anything about this. 

 

Eventually would like to put the Pflueger on something and use it for wiper or catfish maybe (it's a big reel) - recommendations are welcome

Your reel doesn't define finesse. The reel is size 40 may be too big and heavy for most 2 to 3 power Medium or Medium heavy spinning rods used for bass fishing.

Dobyns FR 703 spinning rod or Major Craft MH 7' spinning rod may work but are designed to balance with size 2000 to 2500 spinning reels.

I am inquiring about two separate issues. The first issue being that of a new lighter weight spinning combo for under $175. Second I am wanting rod recommendations for that plfueger for larger fishing.

Shimano Sahara FT 2500 for the FR 703 works. Someone else can help you with the size 40 spinning reel.

You've got two threads going for the same thing, then.

 

Did you not find an answer in this one for the Pflueger?

As for the $175 combo, look around for a ML rod in the $100 range like

a Carbonlite, Veritas, etc., and grab a Sahara as @WRB suggested,

or a Pflueger President, Daiwa Legalis...all solid in the sub-$100 range.

First take a look at my response to your first post on using that spinning reel as a cat, striper, wiper rod combo. I suggested matching it up with an inshore series rod only because of the lures and bait techniques you could use and how well it would match up with that reel. The fish do not know that reel is not on a catfish rod or it is on an inshore model rod.

 

As for a reasonable finesse combo take a look at Pflueger President XT in a 30 size. It will run you $80 at Tackle Warehouse but available for around $70 new off of Amazon.  That leaves you around $100 for a good rod. The Dobyns Fury 703 is a good choice. So is a Diawa Tatula XT, or perhaps a lews Mach 1 speed stick. I guess you could fit in a Lews TP1 as well. Maybe a Powell Inferno.  QAll good options in your budget.

I saw both of your replies there and appreciate that. Wanted to post about the combo question here. Figured I would throw the question about the Pflueger in here too. I appreciate the advice from all of you guys. Forgot to mention but also plan on fishing for trout with the combo as well - if that changes anything let me know

Depends on what you use and what size the trout are.

Dobyns FR 702 SF w/ size 1000 spinning and 6 lb line is a ML Fineese bass/trout combo.

Academy has their highest end spinning rods on sale for $40 right now (normally $100). There's a 7' 2" M that would help balance out the weight of that 40 size reel and a 6' 8" M that would be a good all around rod. Then you'll have plenty left over to get a nice reel to put on it.
