larht Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 You're on an electric motor only lake. You are at the far end of the lake and it will take you 20 or thirty minutes to get back to the loading ramp with the trolling motor, a storm comes up rain and lightening. Do you fire up the gas engine and fly back to the ramp, or take your chances with the trolling motor only? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 7, 2007 Super User Posted July 7, 2007 Of course. I've operated on 10hp limited lakes before and fired the big motor when a storm was approaching. Any conservation agent puts the book away when your life and limb is possibly at stake. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 would you speed thru traffic if you had to go to the emergencey room of course Quote
rdneckhntr Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I wouldnt FLY back because that would just make it even more dangerous for everyone else but I would still use the big motor... Quote
FishingBuds Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 You guys allowed to have the gas motor on at a all electric lake? Some of the all electric spots I fish at doesn't even allow a gas engine on, well that was then-maybe I need to call and update me self :-? Quote
Gotta Love It Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Yep! I would fire up the engine... my life is more important! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 Have done it twice this year. And once when I wasn't in danger, just wanted to run the big motor for a minute. Quote
MattStrykul Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Have done it twice this year. And once when I wasn't in danger, just wanted to run the big motor for a minute. ;D ;D You bet I would! My uncle has done it a few times as well. I don't even think that you would get into that much trouble. Quote
Big T Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Yes I would definately fire up the big motor, I would rather pay the fine than get struck by lightning. Big T Quote
BOOYAH Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 heck yea...better to be alive an pay a fine than dead just to obey the rules!!!! Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 15, 2007 Super User Posted July 15, 2007 ive had a park ranger tell me to fire up and head for the boat ramp due to bad storms coming. some electric only lakes round here make you take your prop off before hitting the water. Quote
bassnleo Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I've done it to, I didn't put the boat of plane but I did idle back. I hate lightning, if a storms comin I'm a runnin Quote
