It was a 10 pounder Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Hey guys I was wondering what the best brand of braid is. I am currently using Suffix Performance braid right now. Is there a difference in each brand and if so does it affect anything like sensitivity or strength? Quote
OnthePotomac Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I think the answers you will get is that the best is whatever each angler has chosen as his favorite. 5 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 31, 2018 Super User Posted January 31, 2018 My favorite is Seaguar Smackdown. 1 Quote
ThatredneckguyJamie Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 powerpro is my go to line...almost bought the Seaguar smackdown but they didn't have the test I wanted..so back to powerpro Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 31, 2018 Super User Posted January 31, 2018 The Sufix Performance braid you are using is a fine braid. I have used it for years along with others and never had any complaints. Just about any brand of braid mentioned on these "best" threads will be a good product. For someone to give you a fact-supported opinion on the best braid he or she would have had to try and analyze every one on the market. Right? Quote

Fades fairly quickly, but that doesn't affect performance of the braid. Was on vacation when I had to change it. Had to go to regular PowerPro as that was all Walmart had. Original PP is noisier thru the guides, but works just as good otherwise. If you want a braid that is thinner per size, then one possibility is Daiwa Samurai. However, it may not be quit as strong as other braids with larger diameters. Quote
junyer357 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Its about like saying which pickup truck is best. Everyone has a preference. I personally like power pro slick 8 and suffix 832 and will never own another ford as long as i live. 1 1 Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Suffix 832, but we already knew that now didn't we class! 3 Quote
Yumeya Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Try going off of diameter instead of pound rating, that is when you will find the differences between braids. For example, Seaguar smack down in 10lb is .005" diameter while sufix 832 in 10lb is .008" Sufix 10lb will actually brake around 30lb while the seaguar will brake around its stated lb rating. Another example- Check the mm differences and lb ratings going off of mm. https://www.rapala.com/sufix/braid/832-advanced-superline/832-advanced-superline/832+Advanced+Superline.html https://sufix.fishing/products/832-advanced-superline Basically I use .006" for my spinning reels and .008" for my baitcasters. Super User rippin-lips Posted February 1, 2018 Super User Posted February 1, 2018 Suffix 832 Seaguar smackdown PP super slick 8 PP original Daiwa samurai Daiwa J braid X4 Daiwa J braid X8 Any of those are just fine. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted February 1, 2018 Super User Posted February 1, 2018 Conversely , I had some first generation Kansen #8 lb. braid you had to baby or it would break below the rating ... In #5 lb. through #15 lb. I have liked Power Pro in Hi - Vis Yellow . Quote
Fishinthefish Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Smackdown is IMHO the best, J Braid coming in at second, and Power Pro coming in at third. Quote

Havent figured out what smackdown possesses that makes it a premium priced line other than its name brand. Gamma Torque is a better braid at nearly half the cost. 1 Quote
ThatredneckguyJamie Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I'd read good things about the smackdown but powerpro has never let me down... Quote
TheRodFather88 Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I recently picked up some 832 to try this season for the first time. Started out using Spider wire stealth Braid but have been using PP the last few years and have zero complaints. It's really about preference I think once you get in to the top brands. Quote
Blacktail 8541 Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 VICIOUS no fade braid is my go to. Thin for LB rating , no bleed and it cast great. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 23, 2018 Super User Posted February 23, 2018 Honestly, all four carrier braids are pretty good. You'll be using a break strength well higher than what you'd actually need. It comes down to what prefer as far as how it handles and it's limpness. Some have more body, like Power Pro, while Suffix is softer and limper. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted February 23, 2018 Super User Posted February 23, 2018 I usually use the Daiwa J-Braid x8. It seems to be a great bang for the buck. For some really heavy lines I may consider Power Pro Maxcuatro though because it's more abrasion resistant. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted February 23, 2018 Super User Posted February 23, 2018 832 Gamma Torge smackdown.......are all top braids Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 23, 2018 Super User Posted February 23, 2018 It, all brands, as stated above, are acceptable. It is going to boil down to your confidence in the braid and how much you want to pay for it. I know two pros who use Gamma Torque. Of course, they get it for free. It is excellent line. Costly, but an excellent braid. Just go with any brand you would like to try and give it a go this season. You can change to another brand if the first one you select does not meet your expectations. Super User Further North Posted February 24, 2018 Super User Posted February 24, 2018 There is no best. There's a lot of opinions about what people like, for various reasons, but there is no best. 2 Quote
kingmotorboat Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 I use daiwa j braid x8. I always find it on sale down here and it hasn't failed me yet 1 Quote
