I have delt with and had some merc motors and liked them. I have 15hp right now, and have use of two boats with a 125hp, and one with a 25Hp.  And almost every body I know has one. However all of these motors are newer motors.  I run  a 1989 Suzuki 75Hp on my boat I have had for 11 years. Blew the power head up, and not sure if I want to spend the $3000+ to have it rebuilt. I was looking at some used motors, but don't want to buy someone else's problem.  a new motor is out of the question.

However, I might have found one, and wanted some info on it. I guy that has a camp by mine, has a early 80"s merc 115Hp Inline 6 ( he called it "the tower of Power") It was just rebuilt this winter. His kid hit a few rocks last week and put a few holes in the hull, motor was untouched. don't think he is going to fix the boat. I was thinking about asking him if he want to sell the motor. I don't really want a motor that old, but with it being just rebuilt & I know the shop that rebuilt it for him and they do great work.

what would a motor like that be worth?

are they good motors?

Is there some problems they have to look out for?

I had one in 1980 and it was one of the best and reliable motors I have ever

owned. As far as price, I would say no more than a $1000.00 and that might be a little high.

I had a late 70's 150hp inline Merc.  Reliable motor, one of the real gremlins that motor was known for was the power trim motor assembly having brushes going bad.  The motor/pump was mounted in the engine compartment on the boat. If it's got PT make sure it operates smoothly.

Agree with the no more than $1000.  $600-800 really.

Had that very engine on my first bass rig.  Very smooth running and never had a problem with it.  You'll have to mix the oil with the gas as it's not oil injected...not necessarily a bad thing ;)

Can you get the cables and controller with the motor or will you have to buy that stuff seperately?
