Evolution Baits Grassburner

Had a few questions. I heard a lot of hype about this lure, and was thinking about picking one up. Wondering what colors everyone recommended, due to the fact that I'll be using it for Largemouth, and even possibly trying it for Smallmouth. Just wanted some recomendations! Thanks!

I'm not altogether sure that color would matter quite so much on a bait like that. It's a fast moving reaction bait, thus the predator instinct in the fish to strike a moving target would be it's first inclination and cause for striking in the first place, not whether it "looked right." Especially being a topwater lure, the fish will likely only see a silhouette of the lure anyways, establish it looks like it should eat it, and consequently strike the crap out of it. I can see it being effective. Now that said, it can't hurt to match the forage of your particular waters, but in my experience my Loon colored Whopper Plopper looks NOTHING like anything in my waters, but outfishes most lures in my arsenal easily.

This bait is awesome. I have caught several nice LM with it. Worth every penny. I have the following colors

White craw

Bluegill

Orange and white

The white craw is the one that I use the most

I'm not a big believer in color whenever it comes to topwater baits. Especially moving one's like a Buzzbait. Think about it. A fish is looking up into the light (sun) and is seeing something swimming along the surface very quickly. 

 

All of my topwater baits are black or white.

@Preytorien I love my loon colored Whopper Ploppers as well, and you are correct in saying that it matches no forage. They are typically reaction baits, and I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for the feedback! 

@Frisbie385 Thanks a ton! Thinking about picking one up! A lot of people enjoy throwing Black/White Topwaters, that color sounds great. Thanks for the feedback.

@fishballer06 That is true. If I even think about it, all my prop baits, and buzzbaits, etc. are white or black. That helps to think about. Thanks again!

I got a white/chartreuse one in one of my MTB/LTB boxes a while back. It’s a decent bait, but I’ve found that it gets fouled easily. The tiniest piece of grass or leaf is enough to tangle up in the blade and ruin the action. That being said, it’s fun and really easy to fish.

That, to me, is typical with any topwater buzzbait/propbait. Grass/weeds/leaves in the prop or the blade of a buzzbait can quickly ruin the action. I've heard they work great, sometimes even out fishing some of my go to topwaters such as  the frog or the Whopper Plopper.

They do have issues, but the Grass Burner is more apt to foul (in my experience) than my Whopper Plopper. I think it has to do with the blade being in the front vs. a prop in the back. I dont fish traditional buzz baits much, but I haven’t had the same issues with them when I have. Don’t know what it is about them.

I see what you are saying, and thank you for the feedback. I know a lot of people sware by them, so I'll have to pick one up.

Go for it. Like I said, they’re fun to fish. Just gotten spoiled by my frogs that I could fish in my backyard and not get fouled up.

Found one in a tree and only tried it out once but caught one decent one on it then switched to a craw. I’ll have to get it out again and use it some more. But I was fishing in pretty bad conditions and so I’d say if I can catch one in bad conditions then it’s got to be decent.

This is not a new bait, it's been around since 2016 so why all of a sudden is it becoming the "must have" bait of 2018? Does this bait truly live up to the hype?

The Senko & Whopper Plopper are 2 baits that initially did not set the world on fire sales wise but are now staples in the tackle boxes of many bass fisherman , maybe the Grassburner might end up being a must have bait for topwater fisherman. I have not used the Grassburner but based on dozens of very positive reviews that I saw on Tackle Warehouse it seems like it would be a good one to add to the arsenal.
