joe bag o donuts Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 So what's the most important feature in your boat or dream boat? Rod storage, electronics, tackle storage, livewell, casting deck, etc. List the most important thing to you. I'd probably have to say a large, clear casting deck. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 1, 2007 Super User Posted June 1, 2007 No leaks, the motor starts, some thing to show me the depth, enough trolling motor to handle a stiff wind and Hydrilla. That's pretty much it Quote
HPBB Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I would say that the boat "FLOATS" ;D after that I would say that the #1 must have in any boat I have, or get is a good TM I can live without all the elctronics, don't need to go fast, Don't need a big casting deck yes, I like all those things But if there is no TM or its not up to snuff I would rather fish from shore Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 1, 2007 Super User Posted June 1, 2007 So what's the most important feature in your boat or dream boat? The boat itself has to be safe with a good dry ride. The first and most important add on for it is a good strong tmotor with a long shaft. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted June 1, 2007 Super User Posted June 1, 2007 No such thing as a clear (clean, clutter free) casting deck so you want them as large as you can get them, front and rear. A half dozen or so rods eat up a lot of standing room. The fewer rods you can keep on the deck, the more your gonna have to mess with getting them in and out of the storage box, which can be a pain in the butt. A good storage box is a nice feature. Too many of the boats today have very limited space up toward the bow so it's difficult to get long rods in and out. I haven't seen a rod storage system yet that I really cared for and have taken them out of every boat I've owned with them. Sleeves over the rods and just layed in the box works as well as anything I've tried, you get more rods in and I find them easier to get out. If your going to tournament fish, you will need a top of the line livewell system. A lot more than just a pump that pumps water in and the overflow drains out. If you fish for the enjoyment and seldom put fish in the livewell, it's not important. Good electronics is important in any bass boat if you plan to fish water anyplace away from the banks or in more than 10ft of water. For some reason, many seem to think they have to cast toward a bank and fish shallow water for bass, for those, no electronics is needed other than a good temp guage. I usually find there is no such thing as enough storage room, but I keep a lot of stuff in my boat, a lot more than most because I always keep wet weather gear, wind breakers and hooded sweat shirts, hats and sunglasses for at least two in my boat Quote
bassboy1 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 A DRAIN PLUG!! After that, I would say a motor, a trolling motor and a fishfinder. The casting decks and all are nice, but I can catch fish out of my 12 foot vee with 4 horse Evinrude. I fish Allatoona in it with the big boys. The only thing I would change is to put a bigger motor on the transom. 5 mph is a bit slow for an 11,000 (I think, may be bigger) lake. Quote

Fish Man Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 An extra seat for the "honey of the week" Isn't that were the extra large casting deck comes in? na man, im pretty sure your thinkin of that huge motor to get ya to that nice secluded spot FAST ;D Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 2, 2007 Super User Posted June 2, 2007 Must have as much deck up front as possible (the more the merrier), stout bow mount TM, and I prefer a flasher unit on the bow. In fact I prefer the old 1240A (haven't used a 1440A yet) above all others for both bow and console locations. I cannot fish without those 3 things on a boat. If I was a bank beater all the time I could live without the electronics but I fish deep more then I fish shallow so I cannot be happy without them on a boat. Once you learn to work/fish deep structure this way you cannot fish any other way. It's kind of sad really, but thats how it is for me. You have to cover water in this game and a anchor becomes a menace. There have been few times when I've felt the need to anchor on a deep structure. It just limits your potential and doesn't allow for different angles of presentation etc. Mobility is key, I need that TM, I need the room to operate it and fish from and I need to see what is under me if I am deep. fishingfourfun Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Good trolling motor. I think boat control is the most important. Next would be electronics. This is of course after the boat is seaworthy! Quote

iowaguy Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Not to sound like a dork but don't forget: Life Jackets (PFDS) Throwable PFD - you almost never need it, but when you do, you DO Sound Device (horn) Fire Extinguisher Quote

Dawn2Dusk Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Other than the "obvious" stuff... I can't hardly live without a depth finder/fish finder up front with me on my casting deck. I want to know the depth at all times and what the contour of the bottom is. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 There are many things that I like having, that make bassin' a more enjoyable experience, but one item I must have to fish and not go crazy is a good, strong foot-controlled trolling motor. Quote
wickyman Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 My main concerns are that the boat can float, and it will get me back to shore if I need to. I don't have a casting deck in my kayak, but it gets me to the spots around shorelines, and does so quietly. Quiet, to me, is the only key factor. If I can, I will use a trolling motor, just in case I get tired. That comes later on though, money is tight! Quote
mudcatwilly Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Reliable motor, stability in rough water, stronger than needed trolling motor, lots of horsepower, and at least a standard tournament setup. The other stuff's negotiable. Quote
d.hark Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Something to hold my beer!!! Yep cooler of beer is the # 1 priority, then you can worry about that trivial stuff like floating, PFDs, horns, lights etc....... ;D Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 after submerging the lower half of your body into the water so you can #@#&, I'd have to say a roll of toilet paper. Quote
harshman Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Storage, storage and more storage. Then maybe a good TM, Good Big motor, and a good casting deck Harshman Quote
Big T Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 A reliable motor that does not smoke everytime it is cranked. In the saltwater where I fish alot, I would say you need a compass, GPS, and a Vhf radio, in addtion to a relaible motor. Big T Quote
