Super User TOXIC Posted January 29, 2018 Super User Posted January 29, 2018 What a {{{{WINDY}}}} day on the water!! Went out to play with my buddy's new Ultrex and see if we couldn't scrounge up some hotside keepers. Lake is at least 4 foot low. Lots of docks/lifts high and dry. Wind was 20-25mph gusts and 10-15 sustained. Not good when the majority of the fish were deep and if I had to guess it was due to the low lake levels. Ultrex is da bomb!! Worked great in spot lock mode in the wind. We managed to catch fish all day on a varity of baits. The biggest fish of the day (no pic) came on a Yamamoto DShad weightless in the back of a creek but she inhaled the bait and so I did a quick release because she was bleeding. She was a good 4lbs. Second bigger fish is the pic and for the rest of the day we caught a lot of knotheads up to 2lbs. Best producers were Ned Rig, Shakey head, Dropshot and ball head in as light of weight as possible. Was great to get out, enjoy some company and a few good cigars..........In JANUARY!! 3 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 29, 2018 Super User Posted January 29, 2018 Nice bass - Congrats And you're killing me with the 'the Ultrex' pump up. A-Jay Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted January 29, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 29, 2018 I'm a pretty honest reviewer and even though the usage is limited due to him having Lowrance electronics, it's a neat unit. Is it worth the price??? That's the big question. 1 Quote
BigTerp Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 @TOXIC How was the hotside in regards to boating hazards with the lake not at full pool? Dominion has it listed this morning at 248', I'm sure 2' low makes a big difference. Heading down there the end of March to fish the hotside for 4 days. Hoping they get some water by then. Quote
Fairtax4me Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Getting all the water we need this weekend and next! Probably wont be enough to fill Anna back up but it'll make a dent for sure. Got flood warnings for rivers and most of the smaller lakes have come up to full pool in the last few rainy days. Kinda ruins my weekend, but we certainly need it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 Ponds need it, too. Glad it is rain and not snow/ice. Quote
BigTerp Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 McCotter's says it's back to full pool and Dominion's sight has the level at 250.2' this morning. Looks like you guys got all you needed and then some. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted February 12, 2018 Author Super User Posted February 12, 2018 I hope it's filled back up but I gotta say the Powerplant's readings and my guessestimates based on being on the water didn't really match up. Quote

Couple spots near Anna got over 3" and we still have some rain in the forecast. If it did fill up, it'll be a solid mud puddle for a few weeks like everything else. 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted February 28, 2018 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2018 I have been chompin at the bit to get back out there but the weather has been crap and I have some maintenance to do on the boat. One thing leads to another. I have to wire up my power poles which requires pulling the seats and while the seats are out I need to replace the sending units on both my fuel tanks (note: you cant just buy the seals, you have to buy the whole sending unit) and I have a coin box to replace my center flip up seat to install. Since I have to store outside, the weather is a factor and my buddy who has a garage big enough to get the monster in, has been out of the country for a while. I can't fuel up because the sending unit seals are leaking and putting a lot of fuel in the bilge...not good. On top of that it's show season and I have been to Hooker Bait and Tackle in Toano and Bass Pro in Ashland for sponsors and still have to go to Cabela's in Gainsville. I'll report back as soon as I can make it out again. Quote
