Tweek1106 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 About a month or two ago I asked for suggestions on a affordable but serviceable all purpose heavy rod that could be used for various applications around light to moderate vegetation. I'm a extremely frugal (some would say cheap) fisherman and I want to get suggestions for a reel I could pair with this rod in the $150 or less range (be even better if you could recommend one less than $100). I won't be punching 3oz weights through 12" of jungle but would like to be able to use it for frogs and some vegetation work. Thanks in advance Quote
CTBassin860 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 8.1.1 Tatula CT. awesome pitching reel. Bombs 1/2 oz frogs a mile too. 130$ max 2 Quote
Dtrombly Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I know this is well below your budget but I wanted to give my input on this.. the Daiwa Laguna.. a sub-$60 casting reel. That's what I fish heavy cover with. Mostly throwing frogs in "cheese" mats and pads. It's a great little inexpensive reel, I keep 65# braid on it and lock the drag down and I've never had an issue ripping big fish out of thick cover. 1 1 Quote
LionHeart Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Lews Tournament MB comes in a 35 IPT model and can be had on EBay from Sportsman's for $109. A have 3 of them. IMO absolutely great reel even if you paid full price. I myself am quite frugal and toil over getting the best for my dollar (As I imagine many here do). I am completely happy with Tournament MB. 2 Quote
kschultz76 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Any Tatula CT variant, just a regular CT,a Type R, or an SV. All well perform great and do everything you want without breaking the bank. Heck you could have them tuned and still be within your budget. 1 Quote
CroakHunter Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I'll go on the cheap side and suggest a daiwa fuego. Can be had for 65 bucks off eBay. Great reels with a high speed retrieve. Quote

LonnieP Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Tatula sv. Got my last one for 125 on ebay Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 x2 on the Fuego. You could also go with the Ardent Flipping reel. However you can only flip and pitch with the reel. If you want versatility than go with the Fuego. Quote

fishindad Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 If you do, or plan on doing, a lot of punching/flipping/frogging then I would suggest spending for the Tatula CT as mentioned. I would agree it's the best ~$100 reel as of now. If you aren't planning to do much with this combo then any of the other suggestions will do nicely. Quote
Tweek1106 Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 What would be the best speed? 7.3:1 Or 8.1:1 ? Quote
Finnz922 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Daiwa Fuego CT 7.3. Perfect reel and cheap. Quote
