Sdime272 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Does anyone have or know someone selling a all star asr series 6’9” med fast spinning rod. Lost my fathers favorite wormin rod and they went out of business... I believe the closest thing to it is a castaway but way over priced! the rod that I lost was bought in 05 it had the thumb cut out for feeling a sensitive hit. Please help me find one. Thanks in advance!!! Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 29, 2018 Super User Posted January 29, 2018 What is your budget? What does he fish on it in terms of weight. Quote
Sdime272 Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 I’d like to stay @ or around $100 I’m mainly looking to replace it somehow with the asr815s which have been discontinued for years now I’m trying to find a used one I hope for someone to have one in the back of their garage lol Quote
flatcreek Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 You can buy All Star rods at Academy Outdoors. They have a contract to sell them exclusively. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 29, 2018 Super User Posted January 29, 2018 What they sell as All Star rods is not what they used to be. You'd be best to replace it with a modern rod. At that $100 price point there's a lot of competition, and that you means you get a lot of bang for your buck. Quote
Smalliefan2 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Look at McClain rods. That is the Morgan McClain that owned All Star originally, until he was bought out by Shakespeare. Saw them at a fishing expo, just like the originals. Quote
Sdime272 Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 Thanks guys I’ll check McClain. The new all star are not US quality from tx that my dad wants that was his favorite wacky worming rod and I’d love to find one used somewhere it was a great rod till it went bye bye off the boat now I need to replace it Quote
zell_pop1 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Do you know anyone near Ft Myers Florida? There is a fishing outlet store there that sells nos All Star Platinum, Asr and Team All Star rods . Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted January 31, 2018 Super User Posted January 31, 2018 If you want the old stock of AllStar, your best bet is Ebay or a private seller. You'll have to be patient and keep searching. Otherwise in that price point you probably need to look for another manufacturer. I happen to be friends with the gentleman who used to be the head prostaff for them and he has a 55 gallon cardboard barrel of the old stock but I can guarantee you he isn't letting any of them go. I stopped by a while back traveling through there and at that time they had a rack full of All Stars. Mike Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 31, 2018 Super User Posted January 31, 2018 I've seen those, and they're nothing like the All Stars I had from the late 90s. Mine were a brown or navy blue blank, and all were fast action. Quote
Sdime272 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks guys but I do not know anyone down there... @TOXIC do you think you have that guys info? Quote

As I said, I doubt very, very much he would be willing to part with any of his rods but message me your contact information and exactly what rod length, action, type, model #, etc. The more info the better and I will ask him. Mitch76 Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Pic of my two piece (wasnt built that way) All Star Nano Worm. Snagged my jig on a rock and it snapped. Less than two months old and only the second time to use it. I went straight from the lake to Academy and they took it back. I picked up an Abu Garcia Vendetta and paid the difference. Quote

I bought that TAC-40 reel, not because of this article, but because of the good reviews of the Mettle line. It is a reel you'd expect to see in the $130 range. A great deal at this price point. Quote
