Toad Master Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Does anyone know if Motorguide is coming out with their version of Minnkota's Ultrex? I have been trying to find out Myself but, am having no luck. I have always used Motorguide but had a opportunity to use the Ultrex and like it a lot. I am reluctant to buy the Ultrex because I have two Lowrance units on my boat that are less than a year old. Any info. would be appreciated, Quote
Wannabe bass angler Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Have you checked out the Xi5? Quote
Toad Master Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 I had owned the xi5. I absolutely hate the way the foot control operates. I like the smooth operation of the foot pedal on the Ultrex, You can run a shoreline with it, without ever having to look at the motor to see where it is pointing. Because the pedal stays toe down or heel down, like normal cable drives do. The foot control on the xi5 goes back to a neutral postion and engages roughly by comparison, and you can't feel your way into a direction change. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 29, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2018 I thought I read on another forum something was in the works (clearly speculation). My brother in law used to work at Attwood where most of the MG tm's are made, since he left I've been out of the loop. I know he still talks to a couple guys there I'll see if I can find anything out. Of course if I do find anything out it'll most likely only be yes or no on a new TM. They're pretty tight lipped there for obvious reasons. Quote

Even then I personally don’t see a huge advantage with link other than being able to follow a contour line on your map. The US2 transducer will work fine with lowrance. My fishing partner has an ultrex and runs gen 3 HDS 9’s and it’s an awesome combination. I run Humminbird’s on my rig but still wouldn’t pay the extra cash for the link feature Quote
contium Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I haven't heard any hints and I doubt MG has any answer for the Ultrex coming out soon. Otherwise KVD (sponsored by MG for a long time) wouldn't have left MG to get an Ultrex on his boat. I have been hearing that Lowrance or Garmin may be coming out with a TM. Quote

I've heard a few times Lowrance has been working on something for a couple years, so maybe soon it'll be unveiled. Maybe ICAST 2018. I've heard Garmin too, but it's not as frequent so who knows. My BIL used to work at Attwood which is where quite a few MG TM's are made and he talked to one of his former co-workers who was at the time still there and he said it looked like Brunswick Corp. was putting their focus on Mercury Marine and Brunswick names and products. Back during the development and release of the Xi5 he said it was a "beat Minnkota" attitude, but that seems to have ended. I hope that's not the case, but it doesn't look good. I saw a thing yesterday that there were only 14 or so guys on the Elites who were running MG and over half of the field were running Mercury. Quote
