Hey guys, so I'm going to get a Jig/Trig rod for 1/4 - 1/2 oz bottom lures.

Be doing  pitching and casting with it.

I like to dredge the bottom with swinging jig head also.

What length power and taper do you guys prefer.

Only occasionally do I get into the thick salad,  so do you think I need a Heavy or maybe a Mag MH?

Thx for any advise

Rick.

7'3" MH/F is my favorite jig length/power/taper for doing exactly what you plan on doing with yours.

Since there isn't a standard to judge one rod maker from another is pure favoritism or subjective guess work to suggest a specific rod for someone.

Jigs and worms about the same overall weight and line strength can be fish with the same rod very effectively.

Your basic 4 power /MH fast action bass rod between 6'6" to 7' 4" will work.

What is your budget, type of reel and rod mfr's do you prefer?

I 've got a Daiwa CT 8:1:1 going on this rod.

I'm not brand loyal and like to try different rods

I have  kistler , Dobyns , No. 8 and a MHX custom in the boat.

I would go up to 150$ for this rod.

Here are the rods in my arsenal under $150 that I really think are a good buy.

Lews tp1 speed sticks

Falcon Bucoo sr

Daiwa Fuego

Are you fishing from the bank or a boat? Shorter rod for bank longer for boat.

When looking at the weight rating of the rods be sure to add the weight of the trailer too. 1/2 oz jig plus a creature bait of 3/8 oz is pushing 1 oz.

I bank fish so my jig rod is a 6'6" mh-f rated for 3/8 - 1oz. Reel is a 7.3:1.

What are the short falls with the rods you currently have?

I'm in a small aluminum boat.

My last rod was MHX 7'3 MH F 3/16-3/4oz and seemed to be a little lacking

sometimes.

Definitely be rated to at least 1oz.

I don't own any jig rods under $200 so can't recommend a rod in your price range based personal use.

Catt was testing Irod IRG 744C and gave it good marks and now is testing a Falcon rod, don't recall the model number. I do own a few Gen 2 Irods ( frog & swimbait) in your $150 price range and they are well made.

The only thing I didn't like about Irod is the EVA grips, your hands stay wet.

I don't have a rod with EVA handles either.

Kind of old school myself.
