I'm going to fish there for the first time tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how and where to start.

Is one area better than another etc?

I don't expect your honey holes, just a general idea and any suggestions you can give.

Thanks

Mike

I have been there four time with a friend that lives in Felesmere.  He knows the place like the back of his hand and has still lost props and a skeg off the bottom of his motor.  It is a dangerous place to run wide open without experience.  While we were fishing we were constantly drifting in stumps, and even got stuck between two stumps. and had to wiggle the boat off.   If you don't know an area, go idle speed.  You often can't see the stumps and lay downs in the heavily stained water.  Don't forget to bring some square bills crankbaits.  They can be magical bouncing off all the wood.  Just bring a knocker because you will get hung-up.  Good luck.

A friend went there years ago and used live shiners. In one day he caught an 11 , a 10 , 2  9s , and 2-3 8s.

I went with him shortly after that and only caught one 4.

Realized at the end of the day they had sprayed the lake for weeds so it turned off the fish somehow.

You did that bad?  Lol  I know guys using Chug Bugs, Zara Spooks, Rapala Rip Stops, and Whopper Stoppers in the morning, and then big Black Worms as the sun comes up.  They run to the pump station in the south east corner, and then the stump field just to the west of the pump station.

Yeah we did?

We didn't boat anything! Nothing!

We got there about 8:30 and left a little after 1:00.

There was a steady 20mph wind which really made it hard as my neighbors boat didn't have a trolling motor or power pole.

We started at the water control structure at the far NW corner and worked our way out back to the ramp.

Then went into the Farm fighting the wind all the way.

We threw everything at them.

Spinners, cranks, traps, jigs all different shapes and sizes of every plastic I had and still nothing.

If we were able to stay in one spot for any length of time maybe it would have been better but with not even a trolling motor it was next to impossible in that wind.

There were 3 boats by a drainage pipe on the east side and we just kept motoring around and saw 1 fish caught in 2 hrs.

We got close to one and started talking to him.

He said he's been there the last 2 days and that was the only fish he caught.

Aftet useing a 1/2 tank of fuel we headed back.

The water must be extremely high as we only saw 3 stumps in both areas.

When got back to the ramp 3 others were packing up also and none of them had a hit either!!

I talked to a guide in the parking lot who was practicing for a charter in the morning and he was "disgusted".

He didn't get a hit either.

His clients wanted to bring thier own gear and throw artificial, but he said he was gonna try to talk them out of it and just use shiners and minnow's.

I felt a little better after talking to him.

We'll try again next week.

Thanks again guys for all the advise.

Sorry to hear that, especially when your only there for a short time.  The lake is so shallow that it will be muddy for a few days, once the wind dies down.  It is a super fishery, I can imagine how the new section will be in 7 or 8 years.
