Anyone Going to Mardi Gras?

Anyone on the Forum heading to south Louisiana for Mardi Gras in New Orleans?

 

Great bass fishing and you can have some extra fun by going on a redfish charter.

 

This guy had a great time back in the 60's at the Mardi Gras.

Went to Nawlins in '91.  It was a birthday present for my wife.  We had a great time but it wasn't Mardis Gras time.  The place was jumping then.  Can't imagine what it would be like for all the festivities.  

 

Daytime or nighttime, there was always plenty to do.  Went to Brennan's for breakfast and had their Bananas Foster for desert.  We also went to dinner at the Commanders Palace.  The food was great at all the places where we dined.

Oooops.  Bad mistake.  It was not a gift for my wife.  It was a present FROM my wife.

Went to Algiers to see the floats being built.  

 

I'd go again, but I'd avoid Mardi Gras.  I'm not a party person.

 

Everyone should see it once.  Go back?  That's up to the individual.

Went down for new years a couple years ago and it was great then, one of these years need to get down for Mardi Gras.

 

The food was outstanding, just keep hitting the little hole in the wall places. Avoided the tourist trap and national chain places, they make no sense when down there.

What hasn't been mentioned is that New Orleans is a great place for taking pictures.

 

You'll see a lot of characters, but if you want to take a picture with them be prepared to give them a few bucks.  It's how they make their living.  They didn't impose themselves upon the tourists, and when we were there, they'd engage in conversation.  But if you pulled out your camera to take a picture with them, they expected a "donation".

 

There was also an elderly woman dressed in black, with a flat black football helmet with tin foil antennas.  We were told not to pay the slightest attention to her or she'd flip out.  She was always pushing a shopping cart, which was also flat black.

 

The characters and the architecture are great for picture taking.  You'd have to make a concerted effort to end up with a bad picture.
