I wouldn't call the FG simple... Simple implies the entire

knot is easy to tie from start to finish.

I'm pretty good at knots, and have 99.9% success with

the double-uni in both fresh and salt, but I could not get

the FG to cooperate whatsoever with thin diameter braid

and line up to 15# test.

No doubt some, like you, are adept at tying it, so kudos

to you and your success.

Alberto knot has already been said... I use that or the J knot. J knot hasn't failed me yet, and is much easier than the FG knot. It's basically braiding the lines together, very strong and small.

Another vote for the Alberto. Fast, easy, and reliable. Small enough to go through micro guides without issues.

The back to back uni is what I started with and it worked well, but the Alberto is a smaller knot that clears guides better and is also easy to tie, so I've switched to that.

+1 this is my experience exactly.

You'll see lot of guys who love the FG, and some who don't care for it, or haven't bothered to try it (I'm in the latter group).

Seems to me the consensus is the FG somewhat outperforms the Alberto in many knot tests, but haven't had a problem with the Alberto.

Alberto knot for me. I haven't sat down and mastered the FG knot yet, but a properly tied Alberto has never failed me on a fish. In any case that I've snagged and had to break off, my leader breaks near the middle, never at the knot.

I learned the Alberto last night, seems strong and small diameter.  Imma give the FG a try next and see what happens.
