wasabi_VA Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I was at a fishing store today and was impressed with a Daiwa Tatula (LT 2000D-XH) reel a rep was showing me. But he didn't have any in stock to sell. I don't even see them listed on Daiwa's website. Is this new? Is it old? I'd like to know the different reel sizes it comes in but the Daiwa website doesn't list them. Hard to spend the money that way. OK, guess they had different pages for casting and spinning. Finally found them, and had to add "Tatula LT" to find folks selling the spinning models. Holy crap - $189. No wonder I liked it. I'm thinking I'll just go back to my usual Shimano Sahara 1000 for around $79. Dang, had an itch to go back and try a Daiwa as my next reel. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Try a BG! For 100 bucks there is no better spinning reel on the market imo. 3 Quote
Finnz922 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 My recommendation is look at the Fuego LT for $99 or the Exceler LT for $79. Both are at 7.2oz and will be excellent reels with good new tech. Shimano's are good, but are d**n near 1.5-2oz heavier in all models until you spend $200. http://www.daiwa.com/us/image/top/LT_Reels.pdf Honestly though, either brand you won't be disappointed. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 21, 2018 Super User Posted January 21, 2018 I've read good things about the BG. I bought an RG as a birthday gift for a brother-in-law. He has been using it for almost a year now and likes it a lot. Seems to me Diawa has really been stepping up to the plate in recent years with both baitcasting and spinning reels in the range most of us can afford. Quote
dam0007 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Exceler is nothing to sneez at if that’s your budget. The entire LT line is excellent! If your fishing salt and/or brackish water the Fuego might be worth it. Quote
kroberts9 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 End of February I will be buying either the 2500 tatula or 2500xh ballistic. The weight, smoothness and d**n near 22lb of drag which is almost if not smoother then my stradic. It will pair nicely with my AGS tatula rod Quote

kroberts9 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Now Daiwa is kicking shimano butt, but the latest ci4+ is impressive I wouldn't look past it. I'm a big fan of Daiwa as a whole, I own 7 rods and 2 baitcaster currently. I'm really looking forward to the LT reel though Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted January 22, 2018 Super User Posted January 22, 2018 I am looking for a new finesse setup for this year. I decided to go with a BG, size 2000. I just got it and haven't got to use it yet bit it does have a larger diameter spool for a smaller reel and it is definitely a very smooth cranking reel. The main difference between some of the more expensive reels is that it weights a bit more, but I can honestly say I won't even notice. If weight is an issue, you might want to spend more for the Tatula LT or Plueger Patriarch. The Shimano Stradic CI4+ would do if you have small hands (the bail hits my finger). Quote
wasabi_VA Posted January 24, 2018 Author Posted January 24, 2018 If LT is Daiwa's newest technology I kinda want one of those reels over the BG. The BG does have stellar reviews though. My go-to reel has been a Shimano Sahara but feeling the urge to try a Daiwa. shopping sucks here though. Only one or two big box stores with mostly clamshell products. Who has good reels reels at good prices? Everbody tends to sit right at MSRP. Quote

Here ya go: http://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/tatulalt/index.html I love Stradics, but put Daiwa and Shimano mostly side-by-side in quality. The problem I have with some of the higher-end Daiwa's is with Magseal. And this is not based on my own use but on reading reviews from the likes of Alan Hawk, et al. The idea is great, but if you need service, good luck. Magseal, though, is only in Ballistics on up in price, so not in the equation with the LT and below. Quote

The biggest thing you will notice is Tatula LT is super light, on paper it's in the ballpark with reels like the Shimano Stradic CI4+ or the Pflueger Patriarch in weight. In the store, I thought it felt heavier than either of those reels however. I had to go out of town to get my hands on all of these nice reels too. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted January 24, 2018 Super User Posted January 24, 2018 Saw the new Tatula spinning reel in my BPS catalog. Beautiful looking reel. Quote
