Super User .ghoti. Posted January 18, 2018 Super User Posted January 18, 2018 Recently got a rod in for a quick guide replacement. The rod was bought used. My client broke one of the guides. He sent it off for repair, and somebody did a terrible job. Wrong guide, ugly wraps, lumpy epoxy. When you looked at thenrod, the funky guide repair job stuck out like a dime in a goat's butt. sent an email to Dobyns to find out exactly what guide should be on the rod in that particular location. They got back to me the same day, asking for my address so they could send me the guide. I asked for an address to send payment for the guide since this was obviously not a warranty issue. They said, no problem, this one's on us. This is an example of customer service going a long, long way above and beyond. I'd heard their customer service was good. This is not good. It is exceptional!!!! I build my rods. I no longer buy them. But if I ever feel the need to buy myself a factory rod, Dobyns just went to the top of my list. 7 Quote
Bassin' Brad Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I just got a Dobyns rod for Christmas so that's nice to know. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 18, 2018 Super User Posted January 18, 2018 Both Gary and his son Richard are amazing, they really care about the customers a lot. I have had the privilege to talk to them a bunch. Something to be aware of if you are interested in a Dobyns rod, many anglers are not aware that they have some "Refurbed rods" for sale. These rods fall into two categories They are either used rods sent in for warranty repair such as a reel seat or guide issue, and since the rod was under warranty they replaced the rod or they were rods traded in on another model rod. These rods are completely inspected, repaired as needed and sold at a reduced price. The best part is they have the same warranty as any new rod from Dobyns. For example they have a Dobyn's "Refurbed" Fury model FR735C available. It states "good condition, trade in, no repairs needed" There is a picture with it. It is selling for $80 and shipping is included. It comes with a full warranty. A new one sells for $109.99. That means you save $30 bucks that can go towards a reel. The savings is higher with the more expensive rod lines. If you are interested click on the "store" button on the top menu buttons. 1 Quote
npl_texas Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Dobyn’s customer service is excellent. I’ve had a couple of interactions and they were very helpful. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Never thought I would say this but after my last phone call to Dobyns, St. Croix might have some competition in the customer service department when it comes to the fishing industry. Quote
68camaro Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I have never had to test their after sale support, but I have talked to them before every purchase and they are absolutely great to speak with and very helpful. Quote
evilcatfish Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I really only got turned on to Dobyns in the past 1-2 years, and stories like this are responsible for it. It's nice to know they are so hands on and care about their customers. The only complaints I've ever heard about Dobyns were from obvious trolls or unreasonable people with unrealistic expectations Quote
Big-Bass Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Great customer service! A few years ago, I had a Champion 702 break about 2-3" above the reel seat during a hookset using a 4" senko (landing a whopping rock bass ). I called in, sent the broken rod in, and within a week or so, I had a new Champion in hand. They were excellent to deal with! Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Similar experience for me years back. I had the decorative butt cap logo fall off of one of my dobyns Savvy rods(first Dobyns). I called to ask what could be done. A nice lady answered and said nobody was in at the moment but that someone would get back with me. Never did I think though that the owner, Gary himself would be the one to call me back. Ended up sending me the cap, a small vile of adhesive and a sweet Dobyns logo hat! I now own many of their rods and speak with Gary when I need specific advise on one. Quote
Jay Dubs Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I was lucky enough to buy one of their "refurbished" rods which was actually brand new. Someone bought it, then returned it unused. Their shipping was fast, their packaging secure and the rod is amazing in its balance. Love Dobyns! Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted January 20, 2018 Super User Posted January 20, 2018 Crunched tip, called Miranda, new tip arrived day and a half later, no charge. 1 Quote
