Bag vs box soft plastics

Hey i was trying to decide whether I should switch to boxing soft plastics or keep them in bags. I fish from the shore most of the time and was just wondering what all you do. Thanks

i keep 90% of my soft plastics in boxes, but i have some extra bags of baits that i keep for bank fishing. its just easier to grab a couple bags of soft plastics and throw them in a backpack than another plano

I've gone back and forth, back and forth.  

I now have them in a worm binder, so I guess that's bags.  I am able to keep them organized, easy to find, and don't take up too much room. 

 

I also keep my spinner and buzz baits in a worm binder.  No more tangled up mess.

I use both, my senkos are in a plano and the rest are in bags, which are in a small bassmaster bag. Keeps every thing semi organized.

Thanks for the idea I think that’s the way I’ll go I totally forgot about doing that and that seems perfect for keeping them organized but small enough to throw in a backpack.

I tried the box thing and being in a kayak it took up too much space.  So now i have a large plano box and put all the bags in there.  Saves me space but it also probably has me take more than I should lol

I leave the baits in the retail packages, and those go into a tall 3700 size box.

Same, open core 3700 box works for me. I keep the extra bags at home filed upright in a shoe-box.

I refill the 3700 or swap out plastics as needed based on the conditions. I'm a shore guy myself.

I keep all of my plastics in two of the below boxes.  They are perfect size for two rows of most plastic packages, probabaly 20-25 in each row?  For the most part I have been able to convince myself that if I have both of those filled ot the top I don't need to buy any more for a while and just use what I have, haha.

I keep my soft plastics in their original bags, which are then placed in gallon sized bags of the same style baits.

I use a combo of all, have too much plastic to put in just boxes. And most of it warps boxes. Boxing them is the least used though and it's just for some of my straight tail dropshot worms. Forget creature baits in a box and if they come in clam shells they stay in them. As a co-angler I keep them in original bags and put those bags in the binder bags in a worm binder. Then just switch the baits according to the bite. When I'm a Co I also put spinnerbaits in a worm binder and thread the binder handle through my tackle bag shoulder strap and set it on top of it. When I get a boat more stuff will go in boxes like jigs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in one of those new bass mafia boxes.

I leave them in their original bags, I like to fish more than organize. Plus some plastics dry up or lose their scent, like Yum flukes. I left a fluke in my tackle box and it shriveled up and turned hard. I go through Senkos faster than I could ever organize them.

I keep two Plano 3600 boxes filled with plastics in a bass pro backpack for bank fishing and it has a cooler to keep lunch. Works well and keeps things organized and stops the baits from getting bunched up.

I leave my plastics in the bag they came in and I keep those in the side pouches in my tackle bag.

original bags. From shore, I usually keep them in pants pockets. On the boat in labeled gallon bags.

The original bag for bulk storage, but will build little kits around a particular lure or presentation in Plano boxes so I can just grab them and go.

For in the boat I really like the Berkley soft bait binders, I can sort binders by type of plastic and keep them in closed bags or the original bags to keep the scent fresh. I use a lot of powerbaits and I’ve tried them in boxes in the past and they seem to lose some of their “stank” over time. 

I have several different binders and can grab whichever one I need for a certain lake or if in the smaller boat just grab whatever I need for that outing.

In a original bag then in a Plano box or milk crate. I leave all of them in original bag. I transfer those to whatever plano3600 size when I backpacking or kayak or just throw everything in milkcrate when I fish on my jonboat. I do have binder as well but only store the most often use like Fatika Senko and Zman stuff.

Often time now when I bankfishing I only grab just a bag or twos with some hooks and head out don't wanna carry too much weight on my back.

I stressed about the box-vs.-bag dilemma for while too. I realized I really wanted to keep the plastics in thier bags. But I also wanted to organize them, and I wanted to have them ready to use. So I decided on the following (your mileage may vary):

 

1. There's at home, and there's on the water. No need for these to be the same thing.

 

2. At home, bags are organized and filed away neatly in 3731s:

 

3. When I go out, I select the packs I want to bring ahead of time, and I just throw them in a bag. The bag then goes with me on the water. The bag is not very big.

 

4. Suppose I find myself on the water, realizing I wish I could use something I left at home. In that case, I curse a little bit, but make do with what I have....and I probably catch as much as I would have if I had brought everything.

Thanks to having limited space on a totally packed kayak, I've settled on organizing soft plastics by keeping them in their original packages grouped in large ziplock freezer bags by style/type (tubes, grubs, drop shot baits, beavers, craws, curl tail worms, finesse worms, etc).  The allows me to pack them under the seat, in the hatch, etc while leaving space for 2 crates in the back for plastic cases with hard baits and terminal tackle.  It's not perfect, and sometimes it makes organization/keeping inventory a bit tougher, but I can choose the baits appropriate for the conditions and species without sacrificing storage for other tackle, clothes and rain gear, emergency stuff, etc.

Everything goes in 3700's except PowerBaits.  I keep them in their original bags.

I keep all of mine in the bags they come in or a small ziploc bag if I buy them in bulk.  When I started getting heavy into bass fishing I used plano boxes to store my worms but quickly realized I had way way too many soft plastics to keep buying boxes to store them.  I keep all like kinds of baits (craws, worms, swimbait/flukes, toads) all together in larger gallon sized ziplocs so they are easier to find.
