FillupD Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I am considering putting this boat back together but have never done it before. Would this boat be worth the costs and effort??? Any comments or ideas would be appreciated. http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa264/fillupdfishing/ Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 That is a neat little boat. The hull seems to be is good shape. Looks like all it need is a floor, seat, steering and a few odds and ends. The most expensive item, as with any boat, would be a motor. Find a good 50HP for it and it would make a good boat for fishing. whether it is worth it is up to you. do you enjoy that kind of work? do you have a place to do it? how about the time? will your significant other, if you have one, understand you working on it? I would go for it. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 5, 2007 Super User Posted July 5, 2007 If you decide to do it I'd suggest registering over at Iboats forum. Their cliental tends to specialize in restorations of older runabouts of that vintage. Quote
bassboy1 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Don't destroy it. I hate it when people destroy classic beauties like yours to make a bass boat. Quote
RobDar Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 that is one cool old boat!!! and yes...join Iboats...great guys there! ...as with any restoration...it kinda depends on you whether it is worth it or not. Are you going to restore it and then if you decide to sell it get the value of your investment back? probably not...but you will have a really neat old boat, which has a value all its own! I would go for it...Crestliner has always been a well built boat...it is a classic. I would find out if there is any hidden value to the boat as well. I had a LoneStar I bought for $200 and had restored...restored the cable steering and everything...AFTER my father in law had traded it for a shot gun a guy saw a picture of it online and wanted to know if I still had the boat...apparently it was worth a good chunk of change because it had its original parts and was a rare Lonestar...he offered me $1800 sight unseen... so check and see if there are any classic boat clubs or collectors for that boat...it could WELL be worth it. mudcatwilly Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I'd take off the windshield, cut the bow open, and build a fishing deck. I restored an old Lund trihull earlier this year and did a similar thing. You'll probably (definitely) spend more on parts, paint, etc than the boat is worth. I spent about $1,200 to fix mine up and I didn't have to do anything to the motor. Quote

No. Don't cut out the bow of that boat. That boat is a beautiful classic. It never was meant to be a bass boat. You wouldn't be restoring it - moreso trashing it. Fix that to original condition. Don't do like too many others do. Not every boat is ideal to make a floating casting deck. Yours certainly ain't. Quote
FillupD Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 I registered with iboats and want to thank you guys for your comments. Thanks for the encouragement bassboy1. I am going to move it off the trailer and into my garage and at least start on it. I have to find out what to do first, I don't want to do anything out of place or cut any corners. Mudcatwilly; Your comment made me laugh, just a no nonsense Get r Done attitude. Thanks for the comment though. Quote
bassboy1 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 A lot of times it is easier to put the trailer on blocks and work on it that way. Usually more stable. But, if you need to put it on blocks, just about any place that sells utility trailers will give you foam blocks for free. They are just the right size for putting boats on. In fact, we have a boat on blocks right now. Quote
