Go for it. Yak fishing is really cool. You will get a fish's perspective for sure. Check around your area. There are kayak fishing clubs around me and they do hold tournaments.  It will also "get you fishing for sure.  You can learn a lot of the same techniques and there are tons of how to videos on you tube for kayak fishing.  I do not think it is a "kayak or boat" situation.  I think you will find a use for both in your future.
