Lews has my favorite reel to date, Tournament MB. But as a whole I like Daiwas lineup the best. I'd choose Daiwa.

I've had really good experiences with Pflueger and Shimano reels. I currently use Shimano mostly, but still have a couple Presidents in use.

I like them all as long as it is not plastic junk and copy cat.

Shimano and Daiwa.

Probably Shimano the most because of their DC reels.

For gear fishing...no real preference, other than reels being a great example of "You get what you pay for".

Fly reels, easy choice: Lamson.

Daiwa, but I'd wouldn't mind using shimano.

Daiwa. They could set me up with fuego combos and I'd be pleased

I have exactly 2 reels.  One Diawa baitcaster, and one Shimano spinning reel.  My next buy will be another Diawa baitcaster, so I guess my answer is Diawa.

This thread makes me think about something. What happened to Quantum reels? I owned 2 accurists that were great. I still have one. Quality reels. Did Diawa and Shimano just outpace them or has Quantum's quality gone downhill in just 4 or 5 years? Quantum just doesn't seem to be as popular lately.

I think it's just outpaced them. I don't know that the quality is genuinely that drastically different; Though it is better in my opinion. But at the end of the day they've definitely done a better job with marketing, and coming out with "shiny new" products keeping them in the forefront of everyones mind when they go ahead to buy a new reel.

I’m not really brand loyal. When I am looking at a new reel I check the reviews from other people that have used the reel.

I’m also not brand loyal. I have just about every brand out there, although I’ve owned more quantums over the years than anything else. Still have a few that are over 20 years old and still going strong.

Shimano.  Three BPS PQ reels I relegated to back up duty or lender setups.

I have three of that Lew's reel and it's a great reel with a lot of features at that price point. But yeah, Daiwa has so impressed me with customer service I'd buy their reels if I could justify the cost. The sent me free parts three times on a very old Procaster reel. They didn't even reply to the emails, just sent the parts free.
