Deeare Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I'm looking for recommendations on a casting reel. Trying to keep it around the $200 range. I have a few baitcasting set ups with BPS pro qualifiers but I picked up a megabass rod over the holidays and want to upgrade. Rod is rated up to 1.25 oz. I'll be using it to throw bigger cranks. Spinnerbaits etc. im looking for casting distance and easily accessible braking system. Biggger spool if possible. I'm leaning towards shimano or diawa. New curado or zillion/sv???? or used steez or met?? I'm a lefty so if you are selling let me know Thanks in advance!! Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 You are going to get a lot of people saying Shimano and Daiwa to help you get your answer. For me however I love my Gen 4 Revo Winch for big crankbaits. I used the Gen 2 Winch until I upgraded to the Gen 4. Solid reels, excellent performance. Quote
bigturtle Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 If you want a bigger spool size, you dont want the zillion sv tw, metanium or the steez, all have smaller than average line capacity. A tatula ct/ct type r may be a good option for you. Quote
anderb54 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Just saying, you can currently get a Chronarch MGL on a certain website for a lure shop in Japan (wink, wink) for $225. If you're not into that, I've heard nothing but great things about the Curado K's. 2 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 13, 2018 Super User Posted January 13, 2018 I don't throw big cranks, but what I read is that a lower ratio gear works better for lures requiring more torque for pulling them. Which rod did you buy? 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted January 13, 2018 Super User Posted January 13, 2018 Yup my 7.2 and 8.1 gear ration really struggling with those big spinnerbait. Quote
Deeare Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Which rod did you buy? I picked up the orochi xx during the recent sale. $100 off was impossible to resist!! Quote

That doesn't tell me which model. Thanks to a wonderful member I have one Orochi XX....the Diablo Spec-R. Quote
Deeare Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 Lol. I think it's the tour versatile. Quote
TylerT123 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Curado K ($180), it’s so smooth. I picked up the Lew’s custom speed spool ($180) with 10 bearings and compared it to the Curado’s 7 bearings. Curado was smoother, by a long shot. Quote
Deeare Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 Thanks everyone! I Appreciate all of the feedback!!! 1 Quote
