durobi Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I Have To replace my old Lowrance X70 and 25 . I'm considering the new Hummingbird 997 and 700 series with side imaging or the Lowrance 28HD or 38HD. Does any one have any suggestions ? : Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 28, 2007 Super User Posted June 28, 2007 Wow. I wish I could afford that stuff. I just put in 2 520c units for the tune of $1500 and networked them. Quote
GeorgiaSpotSticker Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I fished with someone who had a SI Humminbird, I didn't really care for it... Too hard to pick out the fish IMO.... However the LCX-28c HD is Awesome! IMO, it's the best GPS, sonar, fish finder around for $1,000 Quote
GeorgiaSpotSticker Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Thats 38 is a TV Screen if you like that kind of stuff!!! ;D ;D If I had the money I would have got the 38 over the 28 Quote
acar555 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 The Humminbird 997 and 797 are awesome units. If you want the ultimate in fish and structure finding there is nothing that will compete with them. The also come with standard dual frequency down looking sonar that lowrance charges extra for. I have used quite a few different sonars and side imaging is it. Quote
durobi Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Ok, I've decided to go with a 997C2 si on the steering console and a 797C2 si up front. What is the best way to hook them up and should they be networked ?.Do you use the barometric pressure sensor or pc connection kit? Do you have the 997 on a transom mount and does the motor get in the way? Any light you can shed on the subject would be appreciated. Is there such a thing as a forward - looking transducer? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 29, 2007 Super User Posted June 29, 2007 I would network them so they can share waypoints. You can slant a skimmer transducer either forward or backward or to either side. However only for say about 5°. I have a "spooning" transducer under the livewell pointed forward and starboard. Quote
acar555 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I have my 997 on the transom and it doesn't get in the way of the motor, but everybodys boats are different. Make sure you follow the mounting directions for the side imaging closely. If the tranducer is angled too far forward or backward it can lessen the detail of the side imaging. If you haven't seen this site before http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sideimaging/ check it out. There are numerous photos from users on how they mounted their tranducers and images they have taken with their units. Quote
HPBB Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 If you going to network them together get Humminbirds "Interlink" this way both unit will show the same wave points and see either from either unit. this way you can mark thing when runnig and they will be saved on both units sow you can see them when up in the bow. also the other way around. They also has extra temp sensor unputs so if you want you can add live well temps. I just got one, I have a Matrix 87c & 787c 787c on the TM & matrix 87c on the tramsom. You just pug everything into the interlink and away you go. very easy Now, you can have them share a GPS reciever with out the interlink, but if you save a wave piont on one it will not show on the other. And the units share no infomation. In this set up they are not "networked" they just share a GPS reciever Quote
durobi Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Thank You everybody for the info. Hopefully I will put together a order this week. Quote
