Any reviews/thoughts on St. Croix Legend X Series???

Hi all,

I am thinking of replacing my broken Avid X with a St. Croix Legend X Series through the gold program. Since I am not able to find any reviews/thoughts/specs on the rods I am a little bit hesitant. 
Anybody?

If you can swing the money definitely. The blank utilized in the Legend X is far superior to the Avid X. I think you will be happy.

It’s a Legend Elite with split grip. Anything you read or find out about the current Legend Elite likely applies. Should be a great stick.

It has an sc5 blank arguably one of the best.  If you like split handles and small guides then it's a win for you.  I stick to the same blank in full handle.  The only thing that I cannot comment is ballance.  This is the one thing to find out about.  My sons avid-x is more tip heavy than any of my standard avids.

Yeah, I am looking for a longer Jig rod that is up there with the best in sensitivity and overall quality. Looking at the St. Croix Legend X Series Casting Rod 7'6" Med Hvy.
Is it fair to assume that the model is comparable with a NRX/ GLX / Megabass Destroyer in terms of quality and sensitivity?


Through the gold program the rod would come out to: 280 USD (+ shipping to st.croix).

Any reason to get the x over the regular?  If you are running a leader the standard would be better or if your far enough north to deal with ice.  My LE is a 70mhf and my favorite to date jig rod.  I do run a steez reel so that makes the rig very lite.  I am not going to split hairs about how much feel you get between the models listed but if your interested TT has a good review.  Only difference would be the handle if you get the X. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewstcroixlegendeliteec70mf.html

Just prefer a split handle for a bottom bait rod. Also think that they made the rod a tad lighter. I am a bit spoiled by a Helium 3 7'HxF that weighs around 3.6oz. 
I have tried the rod that you mentioned and it was really nice but it made me wait for the Legend X. 
I am planning to either pair it with my Daiwa Steez SV TWS, MGL, Smoke Tour S3 (prefer a light reel). 

Do you know where I could find the weights on the Legend X (st.croix website does not say)

I ordered a Legend X and it came in a few days ago. Got the 7’0” MHF. I’ve never had a rod that balanced this good. Felt this good. Handle felt comfortable whether you palmed it or held it normal. Miles above any of their other rods and i’ve had almost all of their freshwater models.

someone brought this rod up on the LTB thread floating around and I was super stoked when I saw the Legend X on Tackle Direct.  It's an SCV/SCVI blank with all of the bells and whistles of the Legend Elite or Legend Extreme series, just with a cork split grip handle.  I own the current generation of Legend Elite in a 7' MH F jig rod.  I haven't fished a GLX, NRX, or Megabass, so I can't compare them.  I can tell you that the current Legend Elite is the best stick I've ever fished and that I am incredibly happy with it.  However, for most presentations I prefer split cork, and if it were available last year, I would likely own the Legend X instead.  St. Croix's new Legend Elite/Extreme/X lines really are built to compete with the best rods made.

@Turkey sandwich I've been wanting and drooling over the Legend Elite! I've even veeery briefly hoped that my 7' Avid would succumb to some crazy accident so I could do the Upgrade plan!! It felt wrong to wish harm to any St Croix  though haha

I just bought my first St. Croix rod and went with the Legend X.  Paired it up with a ci4+ and have only been able to fish it once -- loved it.

The SCV/VI blanks feel between the GLX and NRX, in terms of sensitivity, best I can tell. At that level of rod, there's not a whole lot of difference anyway. I would still choose the St Croix's over the Loomis NRX, solely based on the guides.

St Croix seems to be very late with updating their website on all their new stuff. It's very strange.
