Newbie here from Detroit.

Been fishing since I could walk (28,now), but really caught the bass bug when I was around 14/15. Fishing (and pretty much all my other hobbies) took a back seat to college, young kids, and work around the age of 19, but recently picked it back up seriously last year. I feel like I’m relearning everything.

Stuck on shore my whole life, but hoping this is the year I get into a small boat.

Unfortunately summer is the “busy season” at work, so getting out can be a struggle working 70 hour weeks. But living 2 blocks off the Detroit River makes quick runs to scratch the itch easy.

I did pretty well this year, for my first year back. Caught my personal best of 6lbs 12 oz right out of the river.

I’ve been browsing the site for a while, and looking forward to funneling as much info as you guys can produce into my brain. Might even try a tournament or two this year if my work schedule permits!

Largemouth. I landed a decent amount of smallmouth this year, considering I fish from the bank, though. My largest was a hair under 4-20.

I appreciate the the warm welcome, fellas!

Greetings from  Frozen Yankeeland!

Nice intro, have you thought about a fishing kayak rather than a small "boat"? Did the better part of 50 years from the shoreline accept when I borrowed my dad's old flat bottom 10 footer which fit nicely in the bed of my truck....until the truck found a new owner.

Got a new truck and a yak to go with it last season....and to paraphrase Martin Luther King...free at last, free at last!!!! ?????

Hope you manage to find a little time to do a tournament or two. I'm hoping to do the same!

I’m actually picking up an 8 ft Pelican “boat” this weekend. I’ll make a post about it because I have some questions.

But I did give a kayak thought. I want to like the idea, but I’m a klutz and I prefer to stand.

As far as tournaments go- I’d love to, for the sole purpose of learning and meeting fishing buddies. I’m not very competitive, I prefer to challenge myself.

If you haven’t already done so, I would recommend setting aside some time and reading this thread:
