Rain turns to sleet and then to snow. 1" of ice covered by 3"-5" of the white stuff. The stores will run out of bread and milk before noon today and the city will be shut down tomorrow. 3 Quote

Super User Sam Posted January 12, 2018 Super User Posted January 12, 2018 I hope it misses Virginia but the weather maps have the storm as coming through our area tomorrow and into the weekend. Today it was a beautiful 64* in Richmond, Virginia. Could be down to single digits, soon. 1 Quote

I can hardly wait the 3 1/2 years until I move that direction and this forecast becomes a big deal! You just described "fall"... 3 hours ago, Fishing Rhino said: Oh no!!!!! It's the apocalypse. Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 12, 2018 Super User Posted January 12, 2018 Best of luck with all of that! When people aren't used to that type of weather thankfully it shuts everything down. We get a lot of snow out here but fortunately we do not get a layer of ice built up before the snow arrives. Be safe!! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 12, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 12, 2018 That front already came through here this morning. 52 degrees out still when I got to work at midnight, about 5am it started dropping fast and was in the 20's and sleeting when I left at 8am. It didn't amount to much here, just a pain driving home because it was freezing my wipers up and couldn't see great. Of course everyone was acting like the end was coming. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted January 16, 2018 Super User Posted January 16, 2018 My three outside cats along with my four inside cats are camped out around the woodstove. We had a brief touch of the january spring thaw but it’s cold again with 7” of snow hitting ct tonight. There saying 50 degrees to follow this snow. I did buy extra firewood last fall. It’s New England weather. i think this cooling off is part of global warming, but it’s a natural cycle of the earth. We’re ok. that new insulated camo hunting gear really works. im hoping this really cold weather will kill some of the tic population. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted January 17, 2018 Super User Posted January 17, 2018 So, the wife and I head off to Florida (Thursday the 4th) from Virginia and I'm all giddy about surf fishing and spending a week at my Brother & Sister-in Law's beach house where I can walk right out their back door and down to the beach. First problem....big storm moving up the coast. 95 will be a mess (it was and was closed in Georgia). Debated on postponing but decided to head out and pick a route that kept me off the coast. That was a good choice. Get to St Augustine/Cresent Beach and it's 34 degrees.....34 degrees!! Then I get up and walk out their walkway over the dunes to find that the NorEaster has ripped the dunes up pretty good and there is an 8 foot drop from the walkway to the beach. Ok, I can drive down to the beach access with my truck and come out on the beach......Nope. All vehicular traffic prohibited on the beach after the storm. Ok, I can walk down to the public access even though it will be a pain with all my sufcasting gear......Nope. Public access closed. At least I got to see some pretty sunrises and sunsets for a week and we did get 1 day....1 of 70 degrees. The rest were in the 50's. Still better than the weather back at home Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 17, 2018 Author Super User Posted January 17, 2018 Temperature 7*, windchill -5* Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 17, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 17, 2018 It's an old fashioned winter in the south this year, like the ones my grandparents showed me pictures of. Frozen waterfalls and snow drifts Quote
Super User Gundog Posted January 17, 2018 Super User Posted January 17, 2018 15 degrees and 7 inches of snow here in PA. The local idiot weatherman on Monday said we would get a trace to an inch of snow. The only job in the world where you can be wrong most of the time and still keep your job. Quote
