Fishohio Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Hey guys, Lookin to get a New rod for spinnerbaits/topwater apps for under 100$. Anyone have any suggestions? Will be goin to Basspro shops in a couple weeks. Any suggestions welcome to check out while I'm there. Thx Rick. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Two different animals in my book. What's your reasoning for combining those two apps? 1 Quote
Dens228 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I use an Abu Garcia Vendetta 7'3" H/Fast,, it was $79. I like it so far. Use it for hollow body frogs, heavy top waters like Ploppers, and big swimbaits. I don't use it for spinnerbaits, but when I go up to some musky waters this coming summer I will use it for large spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted January 10, 2018 Super User Posted January 10, 2018 I can see a topwater/jerkbait rod but topwater and spinnerbait aren't in the same power range for me. For topwaters I'm using a short rod in the 6'2" to 6'10" range with a fast or mod fast action with a somewhat soft tip section. Spinnerbaits I use a 6'6" to 7'2" in a medium heavy power with a fast action or mod fast action but the tip has to be a little on the stiff side. The only topwater rods I think would be good with spinnerbaits would be a light frog rod or a rod used for magnum topwaters that use larger trebles that you don't need to worry about ripping them out. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 10, 2018 Super User Posted January 10, 2018 I use my primary spook/popper/suspending jerk/ripbait rod for sniper style spinnerbaiting. It's great for low angle, short to medium range targets that don't require a bomb cast. I use a SC AVC62MXF. Lots of fish caught on that rod with all sorts of baits. 1 Quote
Finnz922 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 A 6'8" to 7'2" M or MH in just about any brand would work. I like a soft tip that transitions about 25 to 30% down the to a strong backbone. 1 Quote
tje0705 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Really different things poppers - lews custom speed stick “wart special” 7’ med buzzbaits/spooks - lews custom speed stick “mag bass 2” 7’2” MH spinnerbaits - lews custom speed stick “mag bass” 7’ mh big prespawn Colorado spinnerbaits - lews custom speed stick “Magnum heavy cover” 7’6” H All of these are close to ur price range but I don’t think there is a one rod for all top water and spinnerbait fishing Quote
Fishohio Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Sorry I was being so vague. The Top water will be buzz baits .Plus larger fluke style baits and smaller swim baits . Probably fish spinner baits 75% of the time on this rod. Not a huge top water guy so it will be mostly be spinner baits. I fish out of a small aluminum boat. So I try to get a few more techniques out of a rod to save room. Thx Quote
tander Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 If I was going to get one rod, it would be a med./heavy. Look at the Carbon Lite rods in BPS, pretty good rods for the money. 1 Quote
Finnz922 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Now that you clarify a bit more i recommend a medium heavy also Quote
Fishohio Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Thx guys Definitely goin with a MH F 6'8-6'10 rod. Has anyone fished an Ark rod? Bass Pro doesn't carry them. They look very nice. Gonna check out the Duckett ghost and Falcon SR. Just wondering couple manufacturers I might over look to check out. Quote
fluna Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Bass Pro should be having their Spring fishing classic soon, trade in an old rod get money towards a new rod. 1 Quote
Junger Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Take a look at the Daiwa Tatula 6'10 MH/F, I use it exactly for what you use it for. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2018 I use a 6' 10" MH/F Ethos for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. They're on sale at Academy right now. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 I own a 7'3 mag MH Ark Invoker. It makes a good spinnerbait rod for 3/8 or 1/2oz. Also would be ok for buzzbaits but it's a bit out of your budget. One of the best Buzzbait rods I've ever owned is the Denali Attax in the 7ft. heavy. It also makes a great spinnerbait rod and it's right in your budget. Great tip for throwing a buzzbait. I wouldn't hesitate to throw the Plopper or a bigger walking bait like a spook, repo man ect. on it. 1 Quote
