Has anyone out there installed or used an "alarm" on your boat in case people start to break into your compartments while at a motel or on the road?

I heard a few "horror stories" about bass boats being vandalized and burglarized while parked at motels.

I think I will go to Radio Shack or another place and try to find the alarms you can put on your motel room door so when it is moved it explodes with sound.

At least I will know if a person or animal has tried to go under the boat cover while at the motel.

Any suggestions??????

Thanks for your feedback.

Sam if you are going to do it go with something that works. I went to a place that installed car alarms and put together a system for not too much money. I went with shock and motion sensors on the compartments, and an ignition kill. It worked great with no ill effects from using it in a high moisture enviornment. They make a system for marine but you can guess with the word marine thrown in what it costs.

I installed it myself in about 3 hours. The cost was less than $250.

most theives go for the easy target...just putting the cover on your boat will deter all but the most interested theives. If your boat is covered and the guy down the row is not...they will go for the uncovered boat.

we had some thefts at a tournament last year...but during the day...while we were on the water...we came back and four trailers were missing their fenders...two were missing one tail light. People steal the strangest stuff.

...this is off the topic...but the best anti theft alarm I have ever seen...after having had his truck broken into and having been car jacked several times...a plumber I know who does emergency home insurance work gets sent into some of the worst neigborhoods in Chicago...every call he looks at the map and if it is in the "red zone" as he calls it...he takes Sarge, his 140 pound Bull Mastiff. Sarge just sits there on the front seat...and oh boy do not approach Sarge's truck!
