Skspacemonkey Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Hi, I’m thinking on making an order for some war eagle spinnerbaits. Any suggestions on some good colors and sizes I should get? I fish a lot of pretty clear water. Thanks! Quote
MDBowHunter Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Mouse, mouse and did I say mouse. well I guess I'd have to add a spot remover and a blue pearl shad. I'd get both 3/8 and 1/2oz. I really like the hammered blades if you can find them, if not smooth works as well. I have all the colors listed as well as a few others, but a mouse color is always tied on my spinnerbait rod for some reason. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted January 7, 2018 Super User Posted January 7, 2018 Did someone say Mouse? Because if not you should definitely get Mouse....did I mention Mouse? It's probably my most productive spinnerbait from them besides their black "night time" slow rollers. Quote
Mumbly Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 I have only fished their "Screamin Eagle" which is a 1/2 oz but in a compact size. Colors are mouse and spot remover. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2018 I use sexy mouse a lot (mouse with some chartreuse strands), smallies love it. I probably carry about 50 spinnerbaits in my boat, I'd bet 35 or more of them are War Eagle. I love their copper bladed baits, it's really hard to find spinnerbaits with copper blades anymore. Plus they offer hammered blades, also hard to find. Cole Slaw and Chartreuse with painted chartreuse blades are both great colors for smallmouth in clear water. Cole Slaw is a good color for largemouth in spots if the water is clear and it's cloudy actually. Spot remover, cotton candy, sexy lavender shad, blue herring, they have so many good colors for all kinds of conditions. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 7, 2018 Super User Posted January 7, 2018 Many don't believe this is a clear water color...big mistake! 2 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted January 7, 2018 Super User Posted January 7, 2018 Mouse ,Like ever one said. Killer color.I fish the 3/8 90 percent of the time. Quote
tonka_blue Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Most clearwater lakes you should be fine with 3/8 unless you want to fish deeper weedlines than get sone 1/2. Sexy mouse, silver shiner, sexy purple shad and blue shad. Quote

riverbasser Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 In case y'all didn't catch an earlier post war eagle has been bought by Pradco I believe so things might be changing. Hopefully not but it wouldn't hurt to stock up now Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 My fav is Gold Shiner. But Mouse is so very close that I can't argue with that one bit. I prefer the double gold blades because they just seem to work well in the dingy water around here and there are gold shiners in my favorite reservoir. 3 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 I picked up a War Eagle Extreme Trokar Colorado/Willow in Sexy Shad last year before I was immobile with gout in both feet and caught a 20" smallie with it in the first cast. I've also had great luck with similar colored spinnerbaits and white and chartreuse in both cloudy and clear waters, to the point I don't even always carry a white one anymore. And for nighttime fishing, try the black/blue colored single colorado blade from War Eagle. Quote

I now control it through diet -- I have not eaten any meat at all since October, and just re-introduced fish, mostly lower purine fish like salmon and catfish into my diet but in limited quantities. I was eating a lot of meat before so I bet this will save my fall fishing season for next year. Plus if I do re-introduce meat, it's going to be in limited quantities and I'll avoid sausages which have about twice the purine content of any other meat I would ever eat. I've found many meatless options around work now, so I don't really miss meat to be honest. Fish on the other hand... 2 Quote
tje0705 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 3/8 double willow white silver and 1/2 combo pros choice Quote

Fish on the other hand... i have been diagnosed as well my diet has changed to mainly chicken and salmon with red meat once a week and have had no issues so far, the biggest thing as i have been told it to stay hydrated. i have cut every drink except water and one coffee a day, this has helped immensely. give that a try before cutting meat out completely because that can have a negative effect on your body, including lower iron (resulting in less energy) and a less protein which can cause some problems 1 Quote

But yes, staying hydrated is important. Before one of my worst gout attacks, I was very dehydrated and despite chugging tons of water, it didn't seem to matter, but I kept thinking the last time I was that dehydrated, I had gout and sure enough, I woke up one morning with a swollen toe. I also only seem to get it during heat season when I'm in the office a lot (forced air heat). I quit meat for almost 6 entire months after my second to last major attack, and I was never dehydrated but I also worked from home a lot as well. I also lost a ton of weight over this time while living on pasta, portabella and feta sandwiches, veggie pizza, mixed vegetable stir fry, eel rolls (which are very low in purine) and eggplant grinders -- not entirely the most weight loss friendly diet! I will probably resume eating meat at some point, but probably keep it limited, like maybe only during summer fishing trips. And no more sausages, as much as I love a hot italian sausage, they're twice the purines of a burger. I also am at a potential risk of kidney failure, so less meat is certainly not going to hurt me. Also Salmon and catfish are both low purine fish, and also my favorites too. Quote

I have a preference for gold blades too because most places I fish have sunfish and yellow perch forage, but no shad. Even in clear water, I like at least one of the blades to be gold. I really like the war eagle "Sun Perch" color. 1 Quote
