Color Question

Hey all, would you consider a lure that's silver w/black back a lighter colored lure or would that be considered your darker colored lure? I'm looking at the new River2sea Lane Changer prop lure and i like the Orange Crush color scheme which is mostly silver with a black back and an orange bottom. I'm just trying to decide if i'd call that my light or dark lure so i can either get a Bone or Loon color respectively for the opposite color scheme. Thoughts?

I'd just get bone and loon. You know what those colors are already without debating whether to get them. But I'd consider the "Orange crush" and very versatile color. Could be used for low light conditions as well as normal lighting conditions. clean water and muddy water.

For topwater lures I generally only consider what the underside of it looks like.  Choose your variety based on what the fish see.

I would go with the bone and loon. Can't go wrong with straight white or black

I have a couple of poppers that have silver sides and a black top.  I use them in low light conditions, and in bright sunlight, depending on the cover I am fishing around.

Probably closer to the lighter color.

 

In theory having a light and dark version of a topwater makes a lot of sense. In practice, I think there are many more important things to worry about with topwaters than than their colors, such as size, sound, action, and hooks. If I'm throwing a topwater and not getting strikes, I usually don't change colors -- I change sizes, the locations I'm targeting, or I switch to something subsurface.

Another take on color is the way fly tyers do:  you tie light, dark and "gaudy," in each pattern.  Maybe the lure you have is a "gaudy" one.

This is the Orange Crush color pattern for the new R2S Lane Changer. I think they are something like 6" long and weigh 7/16oz.
