rtwvumtneer6 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 BPS JM Carbonlite 2.0 6.8:1 RH I'm getting some play in and out on the handle side. I checked that the handle was tight, and it is. I still get play if I grip it by the star drag and wiggle in and out. It feels like the whole crank shaft is moving, say 1/16" I'm curious if that is normal after a fair amount of use, something I might be able to fix, or signs of a more serious issue? The reel itself seems to be working properly, including the anti-reverse and drag, and I don't hear any suspicious noises. Relatively new at tearing these reels down but I'm not opposed to making this a project reel. Gotta learn some how!... And have a good excuse to buy a new toy! Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks!! Quote
JawjaBoy Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Have you taken it apart to clean? If so, was there an "E" clip and possibly a washer on the end of the mainshaft? If yes are you certain you put them back on correctly? If there wasn't a washer, you can get a shim of correct diameter and thickness to fit under the "E" clip to remove the play. Best bet is to get an assortment of thicknesses just in case. Quote
DomQ Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Does it do it when the drag is tightened or only backed off all the way? Quote
Super User Angry John Posted January 6, 2018 Super User Posted January 6, 2018 I have not used that reel but on daiwa there is a little felt on the end of the shaft that takes up some of the play. The main brace that holds the shaft in can be tweeked a little from hard use from punching and frogging. They still work just fine so no reason to worry. Some reels have a little play even when brand new. 1 Quote

It does it regardless of the drag setting. I've had it loose, and also cranked down on it. Same result. 6 hours ago, JawjaBoy said: Have you taken it apart to clean? I've done a basic tear down to clean/lube. If I remember correctly, once the star drag is off there's a washer/clicker, two drag washers and the next washer is flush with the anti-reverse. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Some in/out play is normal. You probably just never noticed it before. If you're really concerned I'll be happy to have a look for you. 1 Quote
