Now I know it's not so cold here that I have a lot of time to think but it is definitely colder and I was looking into replacing my pills on my mustang vests I got way back when.  At least ten years ago.  Well,  Mustang was very nice and said that they would send me some pills...no big deal.  But when they found out how old my vests were she "gently" suggested that the integrity of the vests is not that good after a certain period of time.  Ohhhhh....man.  Christmas just came and went and now I get to mention to my "Darling" that I need a vest or two.  So....now I get to do some research.....Have been looking this morning at the Oxyx A/24 Auto/Manual....doesn't look like it will break the bank and it was rated as one of the good ones for 2017.  I know it's not the Deluxe model but then I really don't need pockets.

Ah!  Do ALL auto inflating vests have these?  I bought a gander mountain vest a handful of years ago and was only aware of the CO2 cartridges needing occasional replacement.

Yes, and I lost one and had to buy another rearming kit as I could not find them anywhere.

Now you tell me to call Mustang!!!!

Thanks. Will do next time I lose those darn little yellow things.

And by the way, in Virginia the DG&IF conservation officers can check the expiration date of your CO2 cartridges in  your vest and issue you a citation if they have expired.  Just a word to the wise.

Ever seen what happens if you don't get that CO2 cartridge all the way screwed on? They fly a long ways with a surprising velocity, and if your wife happens to see it, she'll laugh really hard at the dumb look on your dumb face, at least mine did.

Once again .... thanks for the smiles this morning.  And I have too.  It kind of shows how time goes by so fast and I didn't think of the "little"...."Big" things.  Mama says can order one in a week.  She thinks I'm precious!!!

Hmmmm.....maybe this could be considered a concealed weapon!?

I can tell you all this....have done a bunch of reading and as far as life jacket goes even the old material on styrofoam can break down over time and fall apart.  I do feel too that when it gets warm here in the south I could be hard pressed to wear one of those when it's hot and muggy.  Also feel when hundreds of "our Pro's" out there wear the auto's that they can't be all bad. Have even seen coast guard wear them. Nothing is perfect....nothing....so guess I'm still going with the auto's and when the good Lord wants me....well...what God wants...God gets.

I posted about this on the thread about swimming.

I bought an inflatable just to find out the hard way it didn't work and then later it was recalled.

Thanks to all the posts I decided to do some more research and found things very interesting about inflatables.  Boatus.org/findings had some interesting statistic's.  Tried and tried to find failure rates among inflatables and could not.  But anyway...if does boil down to personal preference and also should one choose to get an inflatable there is a little more care for sure than just putting on styrofoam.  Like one post said....the cylinder could travel at high speeds if not put in correctly.  Think one of my favorite reads was to manually inflate your inflatable and let it sit for overnight as a test.

Again... Thank you one and all for all the input.

Thanks dumb #@!$.  I haven’t checked my bobbins since 2015!  Recon I’ll manually inflate them just to be sure the bladders don’t have a leak. Guess that makes me #2 dumb #@!$

Not so on my end. I've been tossed overboard three times in the last four years and only once did I have my Mustangs on.  The only thing good to come out of that was that I figured out how to get back aboard fairly easy.

If I need a new pair, I'll wait until I can get a deal on them.

It's done....so now I have a better chance of floating this big #@!$ should I go in.  Hopefully not.  Water is for fishing in, drinking and taking a shower.......
