Big-Bass Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 What reel should I put on my Orochi XX Diablo Spec-R? One of my SV103H's or the XS's? Simple question...just looking for an opinion. Looking to fish light jigs/worms, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and Swing Impact style baits. Thanks! Quote
illinifan4152 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I have a sv103h on my DSR. Love it. Balances perfect. I like the 6.3 for swim jigs, chatters, spinner Baits, etc. All techniques I use with that rod. Highly reccomended! Quote
kschultz76 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 A Chronarch CI4 7.2:1 rides on my Diablo. Congrats on the rod, it’s a killer killer stick. Quote
Big-Bass Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 So 1 for the 103H and then split the difference with the Chronarch :)! Was looking at the Spinnerbait Special too and have heard great things about it but also heard the Diablo is very similar with the same rear handle length just more tip up top. Quote
kschultz76 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I’m sure an SV103 will be a great reel on it. But it’s light and balanced so a light reel is awesome on it. Love my Spinberbait Special to, while both are super versatile rods in my hands the Diablo is noticeably faster while maybe still not quite a true fast. For example my Helium 3 MHXF is a bit faster then the Diablo. Spinberbait Special is a killer heavy cover squarebill rod, but the Diablo besides being a great 3/8 and 1/2 oz swim jig rod can also comfortably throw and pitch a 3/8 trig creature in lighter to bed cover. I don’t like the Spinnerbait Special for pitching presentations. Something about the Spinberbait Special just loads deeper into the blank initially, the Diablo shuts down into power faster and loads deeper under more pressure if that makes sense. I happily own both and while there’s some overlap in what they can do I use them differently. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 4, 2018 Super User Posted January 4, 2018 I have no idea which reel will be staying on mine. I put a 50th Anniversary Zillion on it first. An SV103 is another possibility although I think I will try one of the original Fuegos on it next. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 4, 2018 Super User Posted January 4, 2018 I've got a Steez SV103 on mine. Quote

Completely forgot I bought a used one for myself as a Christmas gift. 6.3:1 ratio. Still in box. I want to use it on one of my best rods. Either the Diablo, Hammer MH, ALX Deputy or a Falcon Expert. Where did you find your Falcon Expert. I own one as well. PM me with details if you don't mind. I am not too far from you...about 45 minutes. Quote

Balances really well. Right around the foregrip. I can get an exact location if you want. Mine is a 6:3 but I put 7:3 zillion type R gears in mine. The Steez SV is an animal /w a Type R + spool in it. The SV spool it comes with is really nice, too. Quote

Good to know. I want to pick up a Steez SV103 and have a slew of spools for it. Steez 103HA, Steez 103SHA, IS73, Gigas TD-Z. I would be interested to see which one works best. I have a Steez 105 Limited but I haven't even taken it out of the box to fish with! Quote

freelancer27 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 SV103HL or XS is a good choice, though a bit heavy (the Diabolo itself is not the lightest rod), if that matters. I think a ultra light reel would work here. Something like a Team Lew's Hyper Mag Speed Spool SLP would work perfect (what has two thumbs and is just selling one for a reeeelly good deal? sry, had to do it ) For moving lures a Conquest 100HG would work too, if you are into round reels.
