Ed Stumpfl Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Hello everyone, I recently purchased my first baitcaster and noticed my line roller (levelwind?) doesn't move back and forth sometimes creating build up on one side? Any ideas why? line too tight? not tight enough? too light of a lure? Thank you for any help. Reel is a Kastking Assassin w/50 lb braid, mono backing, fluorocarbon leader. Quote

RPreeb Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 When I was shopping at Cabela's for reels a couple of months ago, most of the display reels had the anti-theft device attached in such a way that it blocked the guide from going all the way to the left side of its travel. Picking one up and cranking couldn't help but do some damage to the level wind mechanism. Since they didn't have any like what I was looking for in the box, they lost a sale that day. I will either go back in the spring when they begin to build up some summer stock, or I will hit BPS next time I'm in Denver and do my shopping there. I prefer buying hands on to going online for something like this (besides, then I don't have to explain to the wife why I'm buying another reel until I've already had it for a while). That way I can check out the main functions and know that it works before I leave the parking lot. 1 Quote

Ed Stumpfl Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 It tightened the line guide tighter against the axle (not sure the proper name). I could literally slide the guide back and forth before with my finger, now it sits snug. Is the pawl the line guide itself? Quote

The "blade" rides in the grooves on the worm gear. Each end of the grooves has a curve that turns the pawl into the groove going the other way, so it goes back and forth and lays the line on the spool evenly. With the nut loose, the pawl wasn't engaging the worm gear. Good catch on the fix! Quote
