Crow Horse Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Actually, this is a legitimate question. The bass in question is one I caught (and released) in October 2015. It was my first season fishing for bass from a kayak. At the time I didn't have a scale and co-workers I showed the pics to guesstimated it's weight. It was very close to 24' long. Admittedly, these aren't the best pictures. For the eyes of those who have more experience than I, what would you guess it weighs? Now that I'm better equipped, I have learned that my perception doesn't always align with reality.... 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 1, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2018 Tough to tell from the pictures. I've seen 24" fish to anywhere from mid 6's to almost 10. Usually, they'll run somewhere around 7-8 pounds at 24" though and I'd guess that's where that fish would fall. Quote
68camaro Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Hard to tell, my recent 20"'er was 5.45lbs but seemed fatter. Yours is quite a bit longer so I am guessing no less than 7.5 - 8lbs. Here's an on-line conversion that was very accurate on my 20" LM. The basic formula for calculating the weight of a largemouth bass or smallmouth bass is: length x length x length divided by 1600. Using this put you at 8.64lbs. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 1, 2018 Super User Posted January 1, 2018 At least 8 pounds. Quote
NCBassAssassin Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I've caught 24" fish that range from 6.5 to 9 lbs. based on the picture I would say around 8, nice fish! Quote
Crow Horse Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll bump up my PB to 8#...... Quote
CroakHunter Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 A 24' bass is probably around 90-95 pounds. But a 24" fish is probably pushing about 8lbs. Sorry couldn't resist Great catch. Especially from a yak. 2 2 Quote

Crow Horse Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 Thanks! My apologies for my typo, lol! Old eyes and tired fingers..... She really took me for a bit of a ride and when I finally got her up to my yak, she brought with her a bale of pond salad........ 1 Quote
