Last weekend I caught lots of largemouth bass, peacock bass, and other fish and I plan on fishing this weekend as well. I would ice fish if I was living in northern states, especially for muskie, northern pike, and lake trout. Ice fishing is on my bucket list. 1 Quote

Hawkeye21 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Here in Iowa I go trout fishing in order to get my fix. I've never been a fan of ice fishing partially because it's too cold and because I suck at it. I really enjoy fishing in the winter because it allows me to fish open water, I'm moving so I stay warm and because not many other people do it. It's very peaceful. 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted January 4, 2018 Super User Posted January 4, 2018 I plan to finish my honey do list by the time bass start moving in. Mostly only plant a few fruit trees, cherries persimmon and jujube, 11 hybrid tree roses, set up new drip line for all tree, build some type of gate to block my dogs from jumping down the street and build a firewood rack. And now this happen influenza type A since Sunday. 1 1 5 Quote

I've never had an implant but I can't imagine they feel too good either. On the bright side it's not costing you a dime except pain, if that's any consolation. Quote

SC is a pretty good state, all things considered. Cost of living and climate are nice. people are friendly. I have often thought I'd love to live in FL because you can fish year round and the bass are huge. It's still in the south, which I don't think I ever want to move away from. The only thing that bothers me is the hurricanes. The wife and I have discussed where we might want to move when our daughter goes away to college and we're retired. That's hopefully less than 8 years away. She likes the coast so probably somewhere on the coast of SC, GA or the east of FL. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 Organized my Rage baits this weekend by type (Menace/baby menace, craw/baby craw, bug/magnum bug) and color. I also created a chart with my current inventory so I can keep track throughout the year. 90 total packs of baits. Don't judge me. 3 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 Reel maintenance and tackle organization, mostly. My wife is another who is very understanding and generous about giving me time on the water....that said, it still pays for me to build up some good credit while the water's hard Quote
The Bassman Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 We finally got above freezing after two weeks of near and below zero. I'm off today so doing some driveway fishing. No hits yet but getting a few looks. 3 1 Quote

Felt good to be doing something productive. 2 Quote

BCline Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 When it gets unseasonably cold, I put on a long sleeve shirt or maybe a light jacket and go fishing. Gotta love South Florida! 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 I hold off on organizing the tackle and most of the prep stuff until a couple of weeks before the season. Until then, I tie a few dozen hair jigs, build at least one rod for myself and one or two for friends/family. A few years back I took up reloading and between that and shooting, I've kept the bait monkey off my back. Problem is, reloading equipment is a lot more costly than a few trips to BPS and TW. 1 Quote
Porkrind Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 So far this winter I’ve been buying a bunch of equipment and pouring/injecting my own lures for this up and coming season. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 24, 2018 Super User Posted January 24, 2018 I live in south Florida, so the fishing never stops for long. The only thing that keeps me off the water is wind. More then 15 constant keeps the boat in the garage. I then hit one of the eight lakes that surround my neighborhood. I just fish from the bank. At least 250 to 300 days a year fishing. Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 24, 2018 Super User Posted January 24, 2018 Quote How do you get your fix? I live in SC so I have done a little bit of fishing this winter despite the unusual cold outside. But the bite has been ridiculously bad around here for fishing off of the banks. Fishing slow, fast, big baits, finesse baits, and not much of anything. But the good news is that the pre-spawn gorging usually starts in February. So to get my fix I've been playing some Fishing Planet on my PC grinding away on catching Walleye in the NY lake to upgrade gear and fish for largemouth in the FL lake. Not as good as the real thing, but it'll have to do. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted January 24, 2018 Super User Posted January 24, 2018 Winter is a busy time for me. I volunteer for my fishing club so this time of year, I’m working our booth at the fishing shows and I’m organizing our annual fundraiser where we raise money for our conservation work. I need some warm weather so I can take a break from the club activities and go fishing! On 1/3/2018 at 10:26 PM, JustJames said: I plan to finish my honey do list by the time bass start moving in. Coincidence? Or are you hiding from someone? ?? 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted January 24, 2018 Super User Posted January 24, 2018 If I don’t feel hooking up the boat and going fishing... I turn to what y’all do as well, Bass Resource, Western Bass, Tackle Warehouse, DVR’d fishing shows or videos. Then I’ll go retry some gear for my next fishing trip. And yes, I do feel blessed I can fish year round. Quote
