I do a decent amount of retail therapy to stock up for the coming fishing season. Just pulled my tackle room apart this past week and have been reorganizing and will now start tearing down all my reels to clean them. Basically trying to not go insane with boredom.

Smart choice my friend. Hit me up if you're ever in central FL. We'll get on some chunks.

I usually fish all winter , but man , this next week is looking rough. Highs in the 30S and 40S here, which is pretty rare.

So , when I don't fish , . I clean up my fishing room and re-organize tackle and service and reline reels. And check frequently on Bassresource.

This is my winter go-to as well.  I use the winter to scout new spots when the thorns and ticks are less of an issue.

Today's high was 0 here, with a wind chill of -18.  Didn't stop me from freezing my butt off over a hole in the ice though

Man all this showing off about living in FL jinxed the weather! I usually clean/maintenance my reels, boat and pond fish.

That was the worst part, I didn't even get any fish out of it.  First skunk ever in memory.  Still good to get out, even though the fishing was terrible and it was frigid outside.  One of the few times I wished I had a little pop-up shelter or something.

Hate you had bad luck but if that's the first skunk you can remember, you are doing something right! I can unfortunately clearly recall a few dozen skunks

It’s not the cold weather that keeps me from fishing, it’s the hard water. I get my fix in the winter by organizing tackle, purchasing tackle, watching fishing videos on YouTube, and planning some fishing trips.

Doing my honey do list so she won't mind me going later.  Don't you hate hearing, "before you go, could you..."  I also reorginize my tackle and spend time at BPS, DSG, Walmart, Academy looking for deals and inspiration.

After 44 years of togetherness I don't hear that one much anymore...I used to wear a watch many years ago and was expected to be home on time....this didn't work well especially when the bite was on or I was desperate to at least end the day with a tug.  So....haven't worn a watch in over twenty years....works out well for me.

Wind is about the only thing that stops me. It was in single digits still yesterday morning when I caught my second bass of the year that went 7.43lbs ?

same basically practice pitching a lot, as well as re organizing tackle and watching old tournaments (drives my gf crazy when i do it all at once)

I have decided to take on my casting deck/storage project on my alumacraft v16. But as soon as that’s done and I have a day off that isn’t too windy I’m thinking I may hit up one of the power plant lakes here in Kansas

Most of the low land lakes are closed for the season until April, so if I want to fish, I have to switch gears and target salmonids. However, the prospects nearby suck because of poor fish management very low fish numbers. It's one thing to go fishing and get skunked, and it's another to leave a warm bed, battle cold, rainy miserable conditions (pacific northwest) to target species that are all but extinct, risk your car getting busted into by meth fiends, then return home chilled to the bone skunked anyway, ano NOT even have one bite. Sux with a capital S.

 

I hope to tie some jig flies as some already have (never does this yet) and maybe pursue other interests such as music composition and maybe play an old school video game or two (galaxian, rygar, contra, mr. do, donkey kong, lol).

 

I tried the "modern" games like Black Ops with my 13 year old son, but the game cheats because I still get killed even when I'm blasting someone or a zombie point blank (translation - still I missing them, lol!).

Ha! I get that call 99% of the time, but it happens when I'm less than 3 blocks from home on the way home. It's like clockwork.  "Babe, can you grab some french bread for dinner tonight?" Toilet paper, paper towels, dinner... I've even called ahead of time, and she'll say, we don't need anything. Then, as mentioned, 3 blocks from the house and, "I forgot. We need.."

I watch fishing shows. I watch YouTube videos about techniques that I want to learn. I surf the Interwebs looking for tackle that I need (want). I was watching my team's bowl game Saturday and they started poorly so I started cleaning and lubing my reels. I went through some stuff I want to take to the local charity thrift store to make room for more.

 

Then my team made a comeback and won!

I live in South Florida where there is not much cold weather so I tend to fish almost every single weekend of ''winter'' we have. Last weekend I caught lots of largemouth bass, peacock bass, and other fish. I plan on fishing this weekend as well and every other weekend for the rest of the winter season. I would ice fish if I was living in northern states, especially for muskie, northern pike, and lake trout.
