Stay relaxed more often when I am on the water.  Take my dad and mom fishing at least 5 times each this next year.

I’d love to crack 6+ for a smallie this year, I catch em up to 5+ every year and I’ve hit right on 6 once. This summer I lost two right at the boat that were easily over 6, guess I’ll have to try to find them next year.

Caught a rare species of game fish yesterday so I ended my year with a bang. Looking towards to the fish I will catch in 2018.

You guys all have a ton of worthy goals for this year. I wish you all the best of luck acheiving them.

To  improve as a fisherman and break out of my "bank beater" habits.  The more I study our quarry, the more I realize what I don't know.

Take my son more and have a great time learning and experiencing the great outdoors.

For me it's been the same for the last several years. To get my Dad out fishing. He's 87 now and sadly getting him out is getting tougher every year that passes by. I must admit though, his excuses for not going get better.

Learn how to fish deeper water, learn how to slow down, and learn how to fish the jerkbait. And a 4+ PB smallie would be nice:)

Caught 6 bass in less than 1 hour on January 1st. Plan on going again this weekend for more bass.

Baby due in Late March so that will take up a lot of time for the wife and I. Due to that my resolutions are much more related to education instead of time spent on the water. I want to get better at launching the boat and being able to determine a pattern more quickly so I can make the most of my trips. I can really improve a ton on my ability to “read” the lake to get on fish more quickly. The skill will be more important than ever with a newborn occupying time and will help once he is old enough to fish as well!

Congratulations! I speak from experience -- kids are like fishing buddies when they get older :)

my goal was to not buy soft plastics until I use up 1/3 of what I have currently (already 3 separate purchases since 01/01... ooops)

so, what I want to do this year fishing:

1) catch one over 5 lbs again (maybe on Lake Anna Easter week!)

2) get my fishing partner out of the house more often (he almost lost his hand in Sept to a nasty infection)

C) stay relaxed on the water, and use what I know to put fish in the livewell

It looks like there's a wedding in the works for me this year.  I don't imagine I'll be getting out on the water all that much.  To stay somewhat connected to the sport, I really wanna start editing more video and sharing my own content online.  Maybe start a blog or website.

1) Get a kayak!! I don't care if it's with tax return $, saving each month, or a crippling impulse buy. I wanna get a kayak!

2) learn, use, succeed and gain confidence in the Ned Rig. There aren't many decent places to fish it from shore on my local river, so #1 and #2 sort of go hand in hand.

We're pretty much in the same boat, but since I fish with my kids I'm looking for a longer canoe and I was going to put more focus on the drop shot but also plan to use the NED rig a bit as well. Of course, this is assuming that I can get a trailer hitch on my car, otherwise I'll be renting canoes and row boats all summer.

Oh right! Dropshot! I have to work on that too haha. But yeah, I know what you mean. I tried the Ned a bit last year but had better success in the current with my go-to tubes. The Ned worked well in eddies, but it's so light I can't reach many from shore.

Go figure, I have a canoe but want a yak. Its too hard fishing alone on the rivers in my canoe. Not as safe.

Yeah I hear you there. I'd also be scared to take a canoe out in most rivers by myself, especially a longer one. Fortunately, I have a few lakes in the area, but likewise without a boat of some kind, it's tough to find a spot where finesse fishing is viable.

Exactly. I too have lakes around, but the fishing in the rivers here is fantastic and diverse. Plus like you said, dinner is hard alone in currents.

My goal is to really learn my lake better and to fish different lures other than the good old Texas rigged worm that catches me a lot of fish. I want to get better at Jig fishing and go for bigger fish this year.
