I just received a Lowrance Hook 5 w/ down scanning for Christmas and I've decided to add a Lowrance Hook 7 w/ side scanning to go with it. My question is, where would you put the side scan? Bow or console? I'm thinking the bow so I can get the best image of the bottom while fishing. What do you think?

Thanks

You have to be moving at least a few mph for SI/DI to paint a pretty picture.  I rarely use it while fishing, preferring standard sonar/GPS split screen.

I have a helix mega. Not sure about lowrance, but at .3 mph I can see branches on under water trees. I have mine mounted on the TM on the bow. I fish alot of electric only lakes, so having it on the console would be a waste. It all boils down to where you fish and how you fish. I have seen posts on this subject and it seems like it's a preference, so you're gonna get alot off different opinions

Just what I'm looking for, opinions and the reasons that go with them. That's what will help me make my decision.

Thanks

I have SideVu on the bow and the console.  I do use it on the bow some but not near as much as I use it on the console.  If I didn't have Panoptix I might use it more on the bow, but that is definately not oranges to oranges.  If I had to go with one, I would put the SideVu on the console.  JMHO

The question is where to mount side scan transducer?  If you mount a side scanning TD on the trolling motor housing it will move when the trolling motor is moved. Mounting the side scanning TD on the boats stern then it will not move as you use the trolling motor. You can mount the head unit screen up on the bow and the trolling motor down scanning TD on the trolling motor, with both head screens on the bow. Now you need 3 units, net work the side scan stern TD with both console mounted side scan unit and bow unit.

Thanks, everyone, lots of good opinions. Especially having three units. My wife will love that one.
