Dpaine88 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Ok So last year I fished all season with a baitcaster for the first time and loved it!! Now I am looking to get another baitcasting rod since my current setup is more of an all-purpose versitile rod rather than very technique specific. It is a Dobyn's Fury 734C (7"3' HF) with a Diawa Tatula 100HL 6:4:1 reel. It is a great rod but I think maybe something lighter would be a nice compliment to that rod? I was looking into getting a 6"6 MF rod for Topwater/Jerbaits -maybe with a 7speed reel - would that be a nice compliment to the 734C? I mostly fish with soft plastics, topwaters, spinnerbaits, tubes, jigs, jerkbaits, frogs, small swimbaits, etc and also some pike fishing 1-2x a year. I was thinking use the 734C for spinnerbaits, jigs, frogs, swimbaits and to handle the pike and then use the new rod for topwater, jerkbaits, tubes, plastics. Any thoughts or opinions would be great- Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 I didn't see a 6'6" MF Fury so you will have to look to another brand. I feel I've always gotten good value for my money with Fenwick. They have a 6'6" MF HMG. Regular price is $100, but you can find one on ebay for $90. Are you limiting your budget to the same price as the Fury...about $110? BTW, welcome to the forum. Quote

Yes I did see Fury doesn't make the rod I am afrer so I have been looking at Mojo Bass, Duckett Ghost, Lews,, Abu Ike etc looking to keep it around 130 or less. I have yet to check out Fenwick tho, thanks I will definitely check it out! Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 Mojo is a very nice rod. Never handled any of the other three. Quote
Junger Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I was in your situation in April. I grew up using a spinning rod, and I had a Powell Max 3D 7'1 MH/XF as my all purpose rod, but found it a little too stiff for some stuff. I love popper fishing and wanted a softer tip for that. I ended up going with a Daiwa Tatula 6'9" ML with a moderate tip and it's perfect for me since I like a soft tip for poppers. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 My choice would be the Denali AttaX Series 7' Medium Casting Rod. Runs about $119 I love the Winn Grips and the action on these rods. Quote
