leftcoastBASS Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I know this seems kind of stupid but I always go back to my cheap shimano sienna despite owning much nicer reels because of the sound it makes when a fish is taking drag. It's louder than all my other reels and higher pitched, not sure how to explain it but its more of a ting vs a zzzzz kind of noise. I dont want to get another sienna since it doesn't feel as smooth as my other reels... Anyone have a recommendation? Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 Yes, I have a recommendation for consideration. Forget the sound of your spinning reel's drag system. You aren't fishing for catfish. In fact, you don't want to hear the drag system make a sound. You want a tight drag so you can set the hook hard and not lose any power from the spinning reel. You want to keep your index finger (the first one next to your thumb) on the line at all times to feel for a hit and to feel what is on the bottom. You want to watch your line so when the bass picks up your bait and starts to swim with it you can see your line move. So forget the sound your spinning reels make because you don't need to hear anything. You need to feel and see what is going on with you presentation and technique. Now go out and practice flipping and pitching in your yard plus add your location to your avatar so we can give you precise advice regarding bass fishing in your geographical area. Happy New Year!!!! Dirtyeggroll Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 How cool would it be if the drag would make a specific sound when peeling out?!? ”Bzzz Hold on it’s a biggun’ bzzz” Quote

Super User burrows Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 I like the sound of a good reel I totally understand what you mean, why don't you spend more and get a Sedona or a Sahara not braking the bank and you still get that good shimano drag sound. Quote
RichF Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Don't listen to these jokers! Haha. I totally get what you're saying. Shimanos have the best sound, although, my Stradic FK doesn't have the same ping as my older ones. I just got a Daiwa BG really cheap and it has a good drag sound too. Quote

I have a baitcaster for that but its really fun using a light spinning reel and actually letting the fish take some drag instead of horsing them in a matter of seconds. Besides I found when dropshotting an open hook you really dont need much force to set the hook. And while bass is my favorite fish to go after it's definitely not the only one Quote
Yumeya Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Shimano spinning reels sound good but my daiwa steez 17 spinning reels has a way better drag and sounds way better.... Quote
