OnthePotomac Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Santa came through with BPS gift cards so I decided to try the new Carbonlite 2.0 you recommended. Call our store (65 miles South) to ensure they had them and bummer, all sold out already. Hopped on line and they have them with free shipping. The wife says what is the hurry it is 12 above. This will replace my last 15 year old Extreme, which now feels like it weighs a ton. The old rod will go to a kids fishing program. I am curious to see if they are lighter than the current 4.0 oz for the 7' MH bait caster. 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 29, 2017 Super User Posted December 29, 2017 Me, too. I love my Extremes but will have to go to the Carbonlite line to expand my rod collection. No idea if the Carbonlite is lighter or heavier than the Extremes. Let us know what you find out. And please remind your wife that you can never have enough rods. It is a bass fishing rule that must be followed. The Bait Monkey loves you!!! P.S. For the Vol Fan: Geaux Tigers!!! Hope you can make a game in Baton Rouge. It is crazier than Knoxville if you can believe that. 1 Quote
Dtrombly Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Handled them in the store the other day, they are light and feel very nice. I'm gonna get one too. 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 Oh yes, much lighter than my old Extreme by 1.5 oz. The old Extreme was a work horse though. I even used it for a frog rod for a while. Can you believe I paid $75 for it on sale 15 years ago. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Thanks, I really hope that you enjoy the rod. In my VERY unscientific test, that only had me holding one of my old Carbonlites vs a new one. The new 2.0 feels lighter, but who knows at this point. We have all the new rods in stock, just no specs. I promise you it's lighter than your old Extreme! Sorry for the delay in my reply. I'm in Gulf Shores, AL. My father-in-law has bone and lung cancer and is in a rehab facility. He's not doing real well, but nothing imminent. My wife just wanted to see her dad for one more Christmas season. Quote
volzfan59 Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Sorry Sam, With all that's going on here, I forgot to reply to you. I'm going to catch up my father-in-law's maintenance list today and was making a list last night. Anyway, Going to an LSU home game is actually on my bucket list! I heard you guys go nuts. I want to go to a Mississippi State home game too. My wife is a huge MSU fan. I know at UT, the atmosphere is electric. The tail gating is unbelievable between the RV's, Vol Navy and for real gaters. It's always fun and there's good smallmouth fishing in site of the stadium. I do my best not to be an obnoxious TN fan, served me well the last few years. While not a Tide or a Gator fan, I can appreciate tradition and a good ball team when I see it. GO SEC! 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 On the Potomac, Did you get your new rod yet? What do you think? Quote
OnthePotomac Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Ironic, I was just getting ready to post an item on the rod. I bought the 7' MH baitcaster. They redesigned the Carbonlite a ton. Love everything about it except the hook keeper below the handle. The grip is great and they went to the diminishing line guides concept. Is it Lew's, or Boyd Ducket that does the same thing?Immediately put it on the digital scale and it came in at 4.5oz. My Carbonlites vary in weight from 4.3 to 4.5oz for the same rod length. I put my gift card Curado 200K XG on it spooled with 15lb InvizX flouro and a Molix creature Texas rigged with a Gammie 3/0 EWG. Now all I need is water and not ice to give it a try LOL. At the BPS Spring Classic sale the old Extreme will go in for cash on another 7'. I am not a rod expert, but for me this thing is a real winner for $120. Quote

I hope the new regime at both schools get this rivalry back to where it was in the 90s. Quote
