New Year's Resolution

I am going to use every class of lure I own and give away anything I don't fish this year.

A few examples would include Jitterbugs, Spooks, Original Rapala and Devil's Horse. I also

have a collection of smaller, light topwater and crankbaits that were bought new 5 or 10

years ago that may need a new home. Seemed like "a good idear" at the time.

In a non-fishing-related resolution (which I usually don't make),

I hope to actually finish several outstanding (some for YEARS)

Honey-Do house projects.

My fishing resolution is to fish more crankbaits and do some cut bait catfishing.

 

Non-fishing resolution is to start using the "Platinum Rule" when dealing with people. Golden Rule = treat others like you would want to be treated, Platinum Rule = treat others like they want to be treated because they might not like the way you treat yourself.

Mine would be to build on a successful year in my club and end the season higher than 3rd in aoy, and to finish competively in the federation as a non boater.

Interesting & timely premise Kent.

The past few weeks I too have 'purged' my somewhat over sized arsenal of rods & baits. 

Removing the unused and leaving only (mostly) what has teeth marks. (not on the rods)

Expect to be posting up a hefty offering (consisting of several 'lots') in the BR Flea Market Forum after the new year.

And since it might not really support your cause noted above, you might want to avoid it - the 'deals' could be epic !

My goal is to keep my stream of big bass going at our local tourney w times a year. I've got 3 in a row and I don't plan to slow down! Also fish Crankbaits more. And to stop buying

Jig rods!

Fishing wise I am not real sure what i want to do as far as a new years resolution other than continue truing to fish more offshore structure.  

Non-fishing wise, who knows.  I would like to finish our garage and do a few other projects around here that are needed now that we have been in our house for a little over 7 months.

fish lakes other than my home lake which is 10 minutes away. there are several really good lakes within an hours drive of the house. gonna do that.

New Year's resolution number 1- Try to be more patie....nevermind, this is taking too long.

Not a huge fan of the concept of a “New Years” Resolution (mostly because I like to start working toward my goals as soon as I conceive them). That being said, there are a for things I will strive for in 2018:

 

1. Finish my Ph. D. - At this point I would have to resolve NOT to do it to keep it from happening. Everything is in place I just have grind it out.

 

2. Contribute the maximum allowed to my IRA - As a graduate student I have no employer-offered retirement options. Considering, I will literally be in training (MD/PhD program) until I am 38 (28 now), living on a graduate student stipend means I have to stick to a strict budget to save significant amounts of money.

 

3. Fish all of the lakes in the Omaha Metro area - There are at least 9 stocked core lakes in the Omaha Metro area. Last year I fished 3 (probably the best 3 based on info from guys in club).

 

4. Catch a limit in a club tournament - Last year was my first year fishing with a club. I only had time to fish 3 tournaments. The first I weighed 4 fish. The second was a two day tournament. The first day of the tournament I actually had the best 6 fish (18 lbs; our club records 6 fish), but the second day I only weighed 4. The third I weighed only 1 fish (a 4.5 lb), but not enough of them.

 

5. Mentally Compartmentalize my fishing time - I have an obsessive personality. It has suited me well academically and financially thus far. That being said, I wasted a lot of time day dreaming about fishing when I could have been living in the time and moment with my beautiful wife. I want to get better at being present of mind when I am at home and we are together. Not 100% sure the steps I need to take to work on this, so I think this will be the hardest.

Haha, too much time!

With the lakes froze up until April, and most bass seasons around here not open until June, I’ve come up with goals, forgot them, re-imagined them and forgot them again. Oh well, there’s always ice fishing to keep the mind from wandering too far, and big fat lakers once the ice leaves the lakes.

Yes, the Southeastern Conference states do have the best bass fishing now that A&M is in the fold and gives us Texas.

 

And yes, the quality of life below the Mason-Dixon Line is outstanding and offers fantastic fresh and salt water fishing opportunities along with outstanding hunting.

 

And yes, the food down south is much better than our northern counterparts.

 

And down south we have Mardi Gras and SEC/ACC football and basketball plus LSU and Florida baseball.

 

So yes, northerner's do have additional time to think of "fishing" related goals as us down south are out fishing and hunting and talking our wives and girl friends into lifting their shirts to get more Mardi Gras beads!!!!!
