Diawa Crossfire or Pflueger Trion Spinning reel

Hey everyone, I was thinking about getting a new spinning reel and I am trying to decide whether to get the Diawa Crossfire or the Pflueger Trion. They are both in a 2500 size. I was wondering what you all would choose. The Diawa Crossfire is 30 dollars with 4 ball bearings. The Pflueger Trion is 40 dollars 7 bal bearings. Which reel would you all choose for finnese applications like wacky worms, drop shoting, and shakey heading.

Pflueger Trion I feel is a good reel for your dollar. I have no experience with the Diawa.

I have used both, they are both what I consider disposable reels probably last a season or two, not saying they wont last longer, I would go with the Phluger Trion.

No experience with the Daiwa but I have 2 Trions, one that is over 10 years old and one that is 4 years old and both still work just fine. They don't get as much use as my other reels as I bought them more as pond hopper/bank fishing reels, but they still get quite a bit of use and abuse.

Wow ten years, I have a president that is about 4 years that is junk now.

I would go with the Trion as well. I have a rear drag model with a wooden knob that is over 7 years old. It is one solid reel, a true workhorse.

Another vote for the Pflueger Trion. I have an ultralight Trion that has seen pretty heavy use over the last 7 years and it just keeps going.

Can’t say about Diawa’s, never owned one but I do have a couple Pfluegers and a trion for my wife and she abuses it pretty good, after 5 years it still works as good as day one.

My experience is with a Pflueger President, but I'd have to go with the Trion.  My Pres is about 8 years old and while I have not abused it, it has cast and retrieved a LOT of line over the years and is still smooth and solid.

Don’t know about the Diawa but I have a Trion and I like it. Just finished one season with it. It’s nice and smooth. I’m not convinced it’s not a better reel than the President.

I just bought a couple shimano sienna FEs. they retail for 29 and felt smooth, so I gotem. My older Sienna's  will go to the grandkids. not sure why you aren't considering shimano, but thought I would mention this reel.

I was considering the Sienna's, but I felt them at Cabelas and was not a fan of the plastic handles. It was my first choice out of all the spinning reels, but I just didn't click with it. It also felt kind of cheap in my hands.

You didn’t bash Pfleuger IMHO. You just shared your experience but I am curious as to why it didn’t last longer. I have a Trion bc reel about 8 yrs old and even older reels that are still alive and kicking today. 

 

To the topic, I have a low end daiwa and I like it, as it does its job. It served as my kids spinning reel and I use it for trout, and pan fish and dropshotting UL. However I’d pick the Trion for only a few $$ bucks more. You might also want to look at the Shimano at that price point. 

 

The good thing about spinning reels is you get good bang for the buck at $40-50. Do your research by comparing the features each has side by side and just as important if possible, try them in hand with the rod you intend to pair it to. Good luck. ?

Your right I actually recommended it over the cross fire I had a crossfire or sweep fire by diawa cant remember which one, about 8 years ago, I do know that drag started slipping after about 6 months of using it so thats why I recommended the Trion becouse having owned the reel I know it is a better reel much smoother and will out last the lower end diawa. I don't think that the Trion lasted me more than two years. I guess Im just hard on my gear, I also have a president that lasted 4 years with minimal use only used it in the colder months for trout and it's pretty wobbly and the drag slips horribly so I'm no fan of the president either. I only use shimano reels now. And I tend to spend alot more than I used to, in other words I don't buy disposable reels anymore unless I'm going on a trip and am buying a reel for my nephews or my kids to use I'll probably buy them a trion.

I have a Sienna too. Just getting started putting it through its paces. I like it so far. An inshore guide I went out with had them on his rods and said they held up well in the salt. He had them spooled with Momoi.

Well said burro. That’s my philosophy on the role of “lower end” reels too. If my son when he was about 6 had dropped my symetre into the drink (and he had a knack for accidentally throwing rods into the lake) I’d probably nearly have a cow and jump right in to save it, lol. But if he dropped the sweepfire Daiwa, I could let it go much easier. He has left Spider-Man, Superman, and the top half of his Batman rods at the bottom of the lake.

I have a trion that is 5+ years old. It still works great. It is one of my favorite spinning reels. Highly recommend.
