Upgrading a trailer and to a MK Terrova

Okay I have loaded the pics of my Lowe Stinger 170 bass boat several times on this board before. I like the boat, but am going to have to upgrade the trailer or the factory Karavan painted box trailer is going to tun into a rust pile on me someday. I use it in brackish/salty/ tidal rives and the Chesapeake Bay.

 

I am curious any of you using a Venture or Load Rite trailer either galvanized or aluminum?  Do you like it.

 

Also who here is using a MK Terrova or a M Riptide Terrova? The Riptide version is the same but the salt water version.  How do you like the spot lock feature?

I'd go with the aluminum.  It is still rust proof even if the surface gets damaged.  Galvanizing while more durable than paint is still a coating.  If the coating gets damaged, the exposed surface will rust.  And that rust, unless cleaned up and recoated, will spread.

I had a Terrova on my deep-vee, but I traded the deep-vee in for a glass bass boat with an Ultrex. Although the Terrova worked fine, the mount isn't nearly as robust or easy to use as the mount on the Ultrex. The Ultrex mount is basically the same as the tried-and-true Fortrex mount, I suggest that you take a close look at an Ultrex, too.

 

Regarding the Riptide, using a freshwater Minn Kota in the salt voids the warranty. If there's even a chance you'll use it in the salt or even brackish waters, get the Riptide.
