Hey Guys,

New member here, and first off merry christmas to you all.

Can anybody comment on the legend xtreme's durability, particularly the 6'8 m xf version of the rod.

It seemed like the tip was crazy narrow, and it would be easier to snap off with a bad cast/ hookset.

Also looking for opinions on the build quality etc...

It's my first st.croix purchase and I Would hate to spend a lot of $$ only to find out that the rod's not going to last a lot of years.!

Thanks!

Welcome to a great community here!

Properly cared for, that rod will last longer than the 15 year warranty.  St Croix rods are high quality rods, and the Legend Elite and Legend Xtreme lines are the best they make.  I have the 6'8" MXF Legend Elite Spinning rod and trust it to fight anything I fish for and then some.  As for build quality, I've had a couple dozen high end St Croix rods and have yet to see find a flaw in any.  Buy with confidence!

Merry Christmas,

Dave

That’s an extremely well built high quality rod. I have the same action in an LTB casting version and a Legend Xtreme spinning. The rods have held up great even when the tips have been bumped into trees.

Now its its a high modulus rod, so you need to care for it properly and not abuse it. As long as you do that you’re golden.

And St Croix has great service and they’ve got you covered for an affordable replacement even if you have an accident that’s your fault.

Enjoy the the new rod!

Welcome to BR. You can rest easy with any of the legend extremes line of rods. I have 5 extremes & never have had any issues. Excellent quality rods with one of the best industry standard warranty. Buy it & fish it for a long time.

St Croix are as well built as any or better. As with any high modulus rod the LTB won't be tolerant of mishandling or misuse. This includes, high sticking, rough handling, snap casts, poking snags etc. if cared for and used with proper technique it'll perform well

This thread is going to be one giant echo chamber.  The Elites and Extremes are some of the best rods made and use high modulus graphite.  If anything, their resin and build technology only aids their overall durability.  The downside to high modulus graphite is that while it's crazy light, sensitive, and incredibly strong for it's size, it will never be as durable as the old Ugly Stick sitting in the back of the garage.  Any high end rod is going to have these characteristics, what separates St. Croix is that if anything does ever happen to it, they have the best customer service/warranty of virtually any company you'll ever do business with.
