Super User Oregon Native Posted December 21, 2017 Super User Posted December 21, 2017 Remembering when our daughter went to be with the Lord a little over three years ago she would always around Christmas time bake cookies for friends and neighbors. She lived with us for quite some time in her battle fighting cancer and left many memories. Now I am not a baker but that little (poop) (bless her heart) has left it on my heart to do the same. It has taken some time and misfortunes but she made a simple shortbread cookie but had the timing down in the oven to the second.....OMG. So.....in the last two days I have made almost 20 dozen of the things and have ate my share.....I keep telling myself to restrain...and I hear her little voice saying "Get Away" but dannnnnng....they melt in your mouth. I'm also diabetic so this is a not win win situation...especially since I try to stay in somewhat shape. But this is my weakness to the tenth.... So.......confession is over......I will try to be good now. 6 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 21, 2017 Super User Posted December 21, 2017 Bless your heart cookie monster. We lost my brother 15 years ago the week after thanksgiving which also happened to be a week before his 35th birthday. 2 weeks ago, mom, dad, myself, and my sisters family went to my brothers favorite restaurant for breakfast. Dad reserved a private room and he ordered my brothers favorite meal. We reminisced. Until next year 4 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 21, 2017 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2017 I know what you guys mean and I feel for you. For me This is the best time of the year but also the saddest. Our family has many traditions including some that were started by my grandmother when she arrived on the boat in the 1800's. Too many to list here but the one that gets me the most is my Dad would always have the place of honor at the head of the table for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. Nobody sat at the end but my Dad. As the oldest, when he passed it was assumed by everyone that would be my new place. Can't do it. On Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Papa's chair remains empty with a complete place setting. Mike 4 Quote
