bps cranking stick?

so i was on bps website just cruising their rod selection.i saw a new one they just released a cranking stick,a graphite fiberglass blend with some gimmick name they came up with for it. So i was looking at the actions and their all rated as fast action,please correct me if im wrong but dont you want cranking rods with a more moderate action?

There is no set standard for rods. I have a fast action cranking rod and it is definitely more of a mod/moderate fast.

I've always wondered the same until I've held them in the store, they are by no means fast. They have a good parabolic bend, not sure why they label them as fast and extra fast.

That's the. Thing I haven't gotten a chance Hold one yet. I was basing off strictly the website, that being said hows the overall weight feel? I need a cranking stick and the price is hard to beat.

I have a cabelas tournament zx. it's a really nice rod. Was very surprised about the quality for the price. I actually use mine as a c-rig and wobble head rod. But have thrown cranks on it before I bought my denali

A fast action glass or composite rod is different than a fast action graphite rod. The BPS cranking sticks were always rated as fast but they have more than enough forgiveness or flex for cranks.

As you know from my other post, btw I was looking at those cranks seem extremely nice. I figured since I won't be cranking a ton I don't need to go balls to thr wall, and get a high price cranking stick.

They are very nice sticks, especially for the price. I had an older generation but just couldn't get use to the oversized hump on the grip.

They feel very nice. I wouldn't hesitate to get one if I was in the market.

Yup.  Quite a few crankbait rods are rated Fast

Clearly you can tell I fish a lot of cranks ha.

For that price I might cause that's something I told myself I want to gain more confidence in and throw more. Would it be able to serve as a spinnerbaits chatterbait rod too?

I do not have one, but I have never read a bad word about them in the past.  One of the few BPS rods that do not get grips.  I am a Carbonlite fan, which seems to the most disliked BPS rod, but I have been using them for over 5 years and have never had a problem.  They are really easy on the old wrists.

Keeper, We got our new Crankin Sticks last Tuesday. They are  really nice. I own five of the older models (I crank a lot) and can tell you that the new version is considerably lighter. They have done away with the old "power hump" handle going with a split grip, no fore grip style instead. It is a very comfortable rod to hold. We've sold several as gifts, but no real customer feedback as of yet.

 

OnthePotomic, Check out the new Carbonlite 2.0's. We got our new rods today. Winn grips, skeletonized reel seat, no fore grip. Between spinning and casting rods, I have seven of the old models. I like the first generation "Black" Carbonlites best, but we'll see how the gen2 white rods do. Sold four this afternoon, obviously feedback yet.

Not gonna lie those new Carbonlite are slick. I really like the color scheme of them, didn't know they wee bringing out new ones. But o agree the og carbonlite were my favorite. That being said I might grab be a spinning rod of these new ones.

I was excited when I saw the new crankin stick was in stock at BPS. I’ve been trying to get one of the older models for several weeks, if not months.

 

I went to the store to check out the new crankin stick and was disappointed. It looked and felt really cheap. The foam on the handle seemed soft and like it will tear and dirty easily. The reel seat looks like it is about to come apart. It is clear that the bottom/back portion of the reel seat is two pieces and on ALL of the models I held, this is uneven and the plastic material of the reel seat seems really weak.

 

The rod was however, extremely light. I’m hoping that the cheap look and feel is just simply that, a look and feel, and that those who are brave enough to try it find that it is a quality (budget) stick because I need a quality budget stick and the first edition has such a good reputation.

are you looking at the new ones with the grey foam eva handle or the one with the cork handle the newer ones have  eva are junk rods with cheap components the others ones are decent crank bait rods I would get a *** defy 7,1 medium for cranks if your looking at that price range its a killer rod for $60

Thanks for the tip.  Perhaps you can shed some light on what the heck happened to the Titanium 7' MH fast baitcaster, which have been gone from the inventory for six months.

I was told they are discontinued. We clearenced ours out along with what was left of the old Carbonlites. I think we have a 6'6" medium left if it hasn't been sent to the clearance center.

I've got a copy of the 2018 catalog. The Titanium rods and reels are not in it.

I picked up the 7'10" MH and it is extra fast.  It does not feel heavy.  This is my first deep diving crankbait rod. 

 

I came to post about the XF when I saw this thread.  After doing some reading today I saw how most crankbait rods are moderate action.  This rod fits my budget since I am not a crankbait guy and don't anticipate this rod getting a lot of use except for a couple trips a year.  Do you think I should trust that the BPS guys got the action right or return it?  Thanks for any help.

If you haven't stopped fishing for the year, try it and see what you think. What one guy loves, others think it's junk.

I have a 7'2 MH/F titanium casting rod I purchased at a BPS store. Never did see that length in any catalog or online if I remember correctly. Seems they are pushing the Carbonlite, now. Any idea of that's it's "replacement"?  I only see it in 7' or 7'6" MH... Wonder if other lengths are available in store. I would imagine it's comparable. If so, I am pleased with the titanium after a year of beating on it. 

 

That being said I have a Carbonlite 2.0 reel and a pro qualifier 2. Aside from being a bit heavier, I prefer the PQ reel over the Carbonlite.

The new Platinum rods seemed to have replaced the Titanium's, although they are a little more expensive. The Titanium's were discontinued not long after the Platinum rods and reels came out. Not sure if the Carbonlite rods are really being pushed, they're just at a good price point. 

 

I'm a huge P/Q fan as well. I don't have any P/Q 2's yet, none of my originals need replacing! I tend to take care of my stuff. All reels get a good cleaning and lube at a minimum of once annually.
