Bk89 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Hello all, I finally decided to dissemble my chronarch to give a wash and maintainance yesterday. I finished the job and felt that my thumb bar is too stiff and I redissemble and assemble it again. After, thumbar is fixed, it seems like doing good free spool when I turn the handle and put my reel on the rod for test. As I push down the thumbar I realize that the pinion gear seems still intact with spool pin, having no free spool. Any idea to fix this issue?? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 16, 2017 Super User Posted December 16, 2017 The chronarch spool shaft goes through pinion so it is always contacting it. If you spool pin is rubbing up against the bottom of the pinion you can try 2 things. First pull the spool out, loosen the cast control knob and re-seat the spool. Make sure it's seated in the pinion. Second, since you took the reel apart, it wouldn't hurt to pop the handle side plate off and make sure you did seat the pinion and the chassis (The piece that the pinion sits and and rides on the 2 posts /w the springs on top) down correctly. 1 Quote
Bk89 Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 Iabass8 thank you for the suggestion. Will try two and let you know thank you. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Make sure the yoke"chassis" is right side up. Beveled edge mates to clutch 1 Quote
Bk89 Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 It is matched with the edge of the clutch. But still locked when thumbar is pressed... hmm Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 16, 2017 Super User Posted December 16, 2017 So when you press the thumb bar down and try to turn the handle the spool won't move? When the thumb bar isn't engaged does it spin correctly? 1 Quote
Bk89 Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 When thumb bar is pressed it return and turn spools when handle is turned. But if you trying to cast(free spool), it seems pinion gear still hold the spool even after thumb bar is engaged(down) ;( And once I force to turn the spool (when spool is locked even after tumbar) it starts to be free spool again as normal condition Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 17, 2017 Super User Posted December 17, 2017 If the pinion was holding on to the spool you wouldn't be able to depress the clutch. You aren't very clear on what the exact problem is. The above post said you can press the thumb bar down and turn the handle fine but the first post you made said that you cannot spin the spool when you depress the thumb bar. Please tell us specifically what the reel is doing. Quote
Bk89 Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 1. Turn the handle, check drag = work 2. Press thumbar and check if spool is on free spool= not work 2.5 press thumbar, turn handle clutch returns properly = work 3. Press thumbar then Spin manually for few turns then it become free spool rdy for cast. I just open the reel up and check pinion york, it is installed collectly. Is it the mechanical break issue? Super User iabass8 Posted December 17, 2017 Super User Posted December 17, 2017 So the spool won't spin at all when you press the thumb bar down it sounds like. Assuming the reel was working correctly before you opened it up, you didn't assemble something correctly in the clutch or something came loose. Check to see if the small spring that connects the clutch to the side of the reel is seated all the way and connected to both the clutch plate and the small hole in the frame. There's another small piece above that spring that slides up and down when you press the clutch in and turn the handle to re-engage it. You can wiggle this by hand pretty easy and you to move it behind the little edge on the frame. Make sure it's sliding behind the the small area it's supposed to next to the edge of the frame. You can trouble shoot this yourself fairly easily. Take the handle side plate off and engage the clutch slowly. 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted December 17, 2017 Super User Posted December 17, 2017 Make sure the springy thing is slightly to the left of the clutch thing and engage the roller thing to the side plate of the clutch bar oil it up with food grade oil and a touch of hair spray to help the spinning bar stiffen up then dunk it in water to clean it up. Should be good after that. 2 minutes ago, Burro said: Make sure the springy thing is slightly to the left of the clutch thing and engage the roller thing to the side plate of the clutch bar oil it up with food grade oil and a touch of hair spray to help the spinning bar stiffen up then dunk it in water to clean it up. Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Is the tension cap cranked down tight? 1 Quote
Bk89 Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 Finally, solve the problem with this issue begin with re-assembly from the scratch. Then I broke down all the mechanical break component including side-plate. I turned washers for the break inside out (carbotex or the plastic part). Then it magically fixes the issue! Thank you for all your helps thank you Quote
