Fishin' Fool Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I've been a long time Shimano reel guy specifically the Stradic line. I'm looking at something different and was considering trying out a Pfleuger spinning reel based on the great reviews. My question is the Supreme XT worth the extra money over the Supreme. Thanks for your thoughts. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 13, 2017 Super User Posted December 13, 2017 I've fished them both; Supreme & the XT. They're decent but eventually both models failed (anti-reverse issues). Not abused - worn out. Switched to Shimano Stradic's. Better now. So My Thoughts - Stick with what you're using. YMMV A-Jay 2 Quote
Smallieseeker Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I have both and performance wise I can’t tell the two apart. I have fished them both now for over two years and have not had one problem with either. If it was me I would go with the supreme over the xt. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 13, 2017 Global Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 I much prefer the Supreme XT to the Supreme. They felt much more solid and connected than the Supreme did and have performed well for a few years now. Shop around and you can find them for a little more than $100. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 13, 2017 Super User Posted December 13, 2017 I have an older Supreme MGX, it was the magnesium version of the Supreme. That reel has been fantastic to the point I added a Patriarch spinning reel this year. I have the Supreme XT casting reels, those are great and have been used hard and so far no issues. The only reel I ever had that failed completely on me was the Shimano Symetre, I had 2 fail within a month of each other and both were only 2 weeks old when that happened. Shimano makes great reels but I think in the spinning reel department that anything under a Stradic isn't so good that you couldn't find a better option for less. 1 Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 With the XT you get the carbon fiber drag and carbon handle, overall a little lighter. I think the XT also has 1 or 2 more bearings, can’t remeber exactly. Otherwise it’s about the same feel, just have to decide if those features are worth the extra cost for you. Both are very good reels and you can’t go wrong with either. I really feel like Pfleuger has the market cornered in the “best reel for the money” category. I’ve gotten rid of all but one of my Shimanos spinning reels in favor of Pflueger ... and that lone Shimano rarely ever sees any action. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 14, 2017 Super User Posted December 14, 2017 I picked up a Supreme XT for my son for his Christmas present, with a 20% off coupon it was $90 something shipped on ebay. Obviously, I haven't got to use it but I've heard only good things and at least it doesn't feel too heavy. Quote
offsidewing Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Own a Supreme XT and current model Stradic Ci4+. I prefer the shimano. If I could only spend $100 there is nothing wrong with the Supreme XT. If I could afford the Stradic I'd get it and not feel bad at all. Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks for the opinions guys. I'll probably just stick with my Shimano Stradics. Quote
